We’ve all practised and practised for what we think could be coming in our artistic careers, but what if something comes up that you’ve never done before? This week on Thriving Women Artists, Ping, Sarah, and Dorien will be giving you helpful tips on how you can start a new project that you’ve never done before and they’ll also be sharing their own individual experiences.

One of the most important things you need to ask yourself before taking on a project is ‘do I feel excited to get this project started’. You also need to know if you want to focus your time on this specific thing you’ve not done before, will it help your career?
Getting a new project is a mixture of excitement that someone wants to hire you and being a little afraid of doing something new, it relates back to stepping out of your comfort zone which we have an episode on already. 
If you’re doing a new project ask yourself, ‘why me and why now’?. Are they asking because they believe in you or think it’s something you can do, or do they want you to do it because you’re cheap or just because they know you. 
Do you currently have the resources to do the project now? And if you don’t, are you going out and buying materials that you’ll never use again? Is it an investment that will help you now or in the future? 
When working on a new type of project, always be honest with the client that you’ve not done this kind of thing before. 
Having a positive mindset is very important when working in unknown territories. Being positive and having a vision and not focusing on the negatives will help you achieve your goals for the project.
