Description

Creativity and productivity are both good things you need as an artist, but they need to be in balance. You don’t want to be spending too much time being creative, because you’ll never get any other work done. And if you’re spending all your time being productive, your art will lack that creative flare. Join Ping, Sarah, and Dorien as they discuss how they balance creativity and productivity.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Striking the right balance between creativity and productivity doesn’t mean making it 50/50. We all have our own ways of working and own needs.
Creativity has no purpose, it’s pure play and experimentation. Trying to make something perfect is not being creative.
Ping uses a funnel to bring her creativity to a place where it becomes productive. It’s not completely free creativity, but creativity in her own style of work that she can then use to make postcards.
If you’re only concentrated on how many sales you will make and how many clients you have, it will eventually kill your creativity.
You can get yourself into a creative space while being productive in a real life sense. You can allow your mind to wonder while you’re doing the dishes or having a shower or even getting your exercise in. Your body is being productive but because it’s something we do all the time it allows our brains to be creative.
When you’re being productive you have a set goal and you know what you’re going to do and how you’re going to do it.

BEST MOMENTS
‘Creativity can be very personal and you don’t have to share it’
‘There is creativity in routines’
‘Creativity is about connecting different ideas to a meaningful something’
‘Productivity is measurable, creativity is not’
