THE PERFORMANCE PRESSURE HOAX
 


The thought is: If I just worked hard and be better, I'll be the best.



Yes, work hard.



But double yes to working smart and hard.



Perceived expectations of us.



Fear of failure to let others down.



Over-attachment of value to performance.



The aggrandized perspective of the importance of the sport - makes you lose the fun.



The truth is that the more fun you have, the better you will do.



But with pressure, it's hard to have fun.



Working smart in sport means knowing how to train your brain - and have fun - while also working hard. Working hard in sport means learning how to stretch your belief in the capacity of your potential … not to hope for what you think you can achieve, but really, really believe that you can goal set with audacious confidence.


 
THE MISTRUST OF SELF
 


The more pressure you put on yourself, the less joy you have in your sport.



When you overthink a race or an outcome, you stop trusting yourself - you stop trusting your training, your coach, your teammates, yourself,  your mind, and your body.



Lack of trust makes performance harder and more complicated.



Trust makes things light, and inflow - mistrust creates heaviness and sharp edges.



Mistrust hyper-focused on past failures and tries to avoid doing them again.



Trust embraces past failures as necessary and isn't afraid to make more.
