Description

Click here to get your hands on my new free mini course, the Summer Reset! In the introduction of today’s episode, I share what I’m learning inside the book, Fearing the Black Body by Sabrina Strings. As I read, I continue to learn how from the time the slave trade began in the 1500’s and as it continued through the 1800’s, the black body was used to justify slavery. White women and men viewed the black body as grotesque, wording depicted from literature quoted in the book from this timeframe. Religion and faith was also used to elevate thinness- believing that the ability to control fatness and control eating was attached with morality. It’s had me reflecting- NO WONDER now in 2020 we have such deeply ingrained beliefs that how we eat and what we look like is attached with superiority and morality. We can see this now ver badum in the health and wellness industry, both the view the controlling your eating makes you superior and that controlling your body weight makes you elevated, or better than. I hope knowing this helps you to pause and think...do you really want to participate in a system that was used as a means to justify oppression and slavery? Now, to today’s episode! Today on the podcast we have guest Kate Eskuri. When I found Kate it was like finding a long lost like minded sister in this world of holistic health and well being! Kate is a registered nurse, going back to school to get her doctorate in integrative health. She believes in traditional practices backed by modern research, which is totally up my alley. In this episode, you’ll hear us geek out on our love for blending Eastern and Western philosophies, how to be less black and white about your health and wellness rituals and what it means to practice holistic and realistic self care. Kate is the author and founder of the Foundation blog and I know if you enjoy today’s episode you’ll love learning from her blog and following her on Instagram.  In this episode we discuss: Kate’s origin story to beginning the Foundation Blog What does foundation mean to Kate and 3  tips or takeaways of foundational health Kate shares about Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and the process towards self actualization. How we can simplify health and wellness, making it holistic and realistic Gray area of health and wellness, not going to extremes and also blending together the worlds of Eastern medicine and Western medicine philosophies. How Kate practices wellness without obsession Kate’s favorite Primally Pure products: the gua sha stone, clarifying serum and deodorant. I would add this beauty cream as a personal favorite, too!   Thank you to BLUBlox for sponsoring today’s episode. I am sure I am not the only person on the computer all hours of the day!
