Ms. Betty
After parking my car and checking the time. Five minutes had passed, and Vickie still hadn't shown up. I pulled out my phone to send her a text, but then I remembered that I should call her instead. Or maybe it would be better if I went inside the bus station to look for her. I've been here before, so I know the layout. Exiting my car, I walked towards the entrance doors. Upon entering, I immediately looked to my left to see if she was already waiting for me. She wasn't there. Making my way over to the purchasing counter, I planned on checking the arrival time for the next bus. But before I could, I heard someone say Ms. Betty
from behind me.
Girl, you startled me! Where did you come from?
I apologize, Ms. Betty. I needed to use the restroom for the third time during this bus ride.
I understand. Do you have everything and are you ready to leave?
Yes, Ms. Betty. I have all my belongings and I am prepared to go.
As we walked back to my car, I knew I had to start this conversation. I wasn't in the mood to wait any longer. Now Vickie, it makes me so happy to see you. Can I get a hug?
She gave me a gentle embrace before letting go. How's the baby doing? When is your next appointment? I assume that's why you're here now.
Ms. Betty, I haven't even thought about that yet. I only booked my ticket yesterday and here I am today.
Child, you know you need to get checkups for both you and the baby and go from there.
I know, Ms. Betty. I'm just feeling overwhelmed right now. I came here because I need to face everyone and do the right thing. I miss everyone and I'm tired of dealing with this alone.
I understand. Let's get in the car and then we can head over to my place. Are you hungry too?
Actually, yes. I've been craving a smoothie with pineapple, mango, and strawberry.
Alright, we'll stop by and get one for you before heading home.
Thank you so much, Ms. Betty. You have no idea how much I appreciate you.
Child, I know exactly how much and that's why I'm here for you now and always will be.
That damn son of mine...I can only imagine what's going on with him, but it's none of my business really. However, Vickie has a right to know what's happening, so I should tell her. Vickie, have you heard from Delvin at all?
No, Ms. Betty. I haven't heard from him in almost three weeks.
I think it's best if I tell you then. You'll find out eventually anyways.
What's going on, Ms. Betty?
Delvin is doing a drug run.
He's doing what?
That's what my friend Gloria told me. In simpler terms, he's driving drugs up to Vegas.
I have no right to comment on this, but Ms. Betty could have kept that information to herself. I'm not interested in Delvin unless he's willing to step up and take responsibility for this baby. Hearing that he would rather run off to Vegas instead of being here with me only confirms my decision to let him go and move on. Which is what I'll tell Ms. Betty now. I'm sorry to hear that Ms. Betty. His priorities are clearly not in order. But if that's what makes him happy, then he can do as he pleases. I can't continue stressing over him when I have a baby to think about.
"Well, that settles
