I
n our life we pass through many stages, we don't know what is going to happen. Life is a river gliding towards the unfathomed, boundless sea and after that it ends in the silence of grave.
In our life we meet and talk with many people. In January 1991, came a boy whose name was Marshall Roy. We all know that everybody believe in love and some doesn't and Marshall was that person who never believes in love. The reason is that the main purpose of love is to bring sadness and sorrow in other person’s life. He was not a very good student but he was a decent and helpful person. Many people used to make fun of him because he was an innocent boy in his school life. He had passed through various problems. He used to fight with everybody who made fun of him.Whatever the matter may be. When he came to the college he got many new friends everyone was very nice and very friendly. He was doing his masters degree in Sociology from Calcutta University. Coming from a small town of Tripura, a state in North east India, he found a different atmosphere in University. It was a new place for him. Now he focused on his studies and started working on his ambition and career.
In the University he got a new professor who used to guide him. His name is Dr.Raj sen who was a professor of Sociology. He used to guide him in his studies not as a teacher but as a friend. He used to treat him not as a teacher but as a brother. The main thing is that he told him to study hard and to improve his writing standard. In the university when he was doing his bachelor degree he had became very serious about life. His ambition was to go to foreign country to complete his PhD degree. One day, some of his class mates asked him, Do you love someone from when you were in school
? Then Marshall told them, I used to love someone when I was in class 12 and she was in class 6, but she used to love another boy who read in class 10. She knew that I loved her but she didn't like me. It is because I was a very poor student; I used to fail in many subjects
.
Everybody who heard his story felt bad for him, some of them told him that sometimes these things happen in life. One of the professors was passing by the class. Her name was Dr Ashes Ray. She told Marshall to meet her in her office. After Marshall's class got over, he came to meet Dr Ashes in her office. Marshall came to her office and took his seat, then Dr Ashes said to him , ‘'I heard what you were talking with your friends. I know love is a very important part of our life but now the most important thing is that you should study hard". Listening to these things he came out of her office.

he University life appears to be very difficult for him to adjust. The atmosphere in Calcutta is very different. It is a busy city. There are crowds of people in the streets. Everybody is busy with their own work. There is no time to look at each other’s face. His mother was very anxious about his study. She has spent a lot of money on his education. Marshall loves his parents very much. He wants to give them all the happiness. He knows that he has never made his parents proud of him but he knows one day he will make his parents proud of him.
When he was in school he was very poor in studies but his last school days were much better than his past days. He got many friends. He used to have a lot of fun with them. His classmates used to love him very much. He was also having a friend whose name was Sayantan with whom he shared his life experiences. He used to love one girl, but he never told her anything about his feelings. He thought that the girl also loved him. Her name was Nathalie Jones. She used to read in class 6 and Marshall was in class 12. He sometimes used to make fun of her and also used to love her, one day when she was going to her home, he told her, Are you going?
. She just came towards him and touched his cheeks. It was the most exciting moment of his life. After that, she heard he is not a good student he had also failed three times in three classes. Since that day, she never talked to him.
After his class XII board exams where he got very poor-marks, he didn't find any good college for admission. At last he took admission in a Government degree college in his home town. On completion of his bachelor degree he came to Calcutta University for Masters in Sociology. He used to spend a lot of time gossiping with his mother when he stayed at home. But now he is in his University hostel. He has no other option besides studying. The professors as well as the lecturers used to like him very much. Among them was Dr Raj Sen. Before coming to Calcutta University he was in England, doing his PhD. After completing his degree he got a job in Calcutta University. He spends a lot of his time talking with him when they were free. Marshall was a fatty boy among all his classmates. When he was in the school all his juniors in his bus used to bully him because of his bulky body. He was also a player of his school football team, he used to play as a midfielder but when he had gone to college he had lost all his football skills. His favourite game is cricket. He remembers his childhood days when he used to play cricket with his father. He has also planned to play cricket from his University but he knows no one will take him in the team. There are plenty of good players.

Next morning he got a letter from his mother:
Dear Marshall,
How are you? I and your father are missing you very much. When you were in the house you used to talk with me, but now I have no one whom I can scold. However, study hard, take care, I will send you a letter every week, I really miss you, son.
