    Jack was very small and did not remember how he ended up alone under a bush next to a busy, noisy road with cars driving by fast.

    The poor puppy was whining and crying. He remembered that he had recently slept near his mother's warm body. He remembered pleasant tastes, being cosy and generally feeling good.

    Now, he was feeling not good at all, and he was hungry. The little puppy hoped that his mother would hear and come running to him.

    Morning came, but the mother dog did not arrive. Jack stepped closer to the road and sat down in fear. Cars rushed past that, giving the little puppy a blast of warm air as it was summertime.
