CHAPTER 13: INTRODUCTION TO CBT FOR TEENS
Cognitive-based therapy treatment is an effective method for resolving important psychosocial issues that we confront on a daily basis. One of the most important benefits of the therapeutic approach is that it is extremely successful and adaptable to individuals of all ages - it can be used for adults, teenagers, and children. You can study this guide for personal insight and understanding of various maladaptive cognitive and behavioral challenges faced by adolescents and teens in general, but please always consult your specialist, therapist, or doctor before implementing any techniques, exercises, or procedures. teenagers, like adults, may pick up a manual or guide and utilize it as they see fit; however, guides and therapeutic manuals for teenagers are best used with the assistance of a professional. This non-clinical guide was produced and developed as a result of extensive study and personal experience with cognitive and behavioral difficulties. This book is really important for all teenagers since the present prevalence of adolescent depression and anxiety is particularly concerning. With the ever-expanding and improving technology, unconstrained society, and free rights to do so many things, so has the pressure on teenagers.
How Do Teens Develop Psychosocial Issues?
Most of the pressures that youth feel is self-inflicted, rather than imposed by others. With numerous teenagers making headlines as celebrities and becoming the founders and CEOs of different businesses, the bar and expectations for other teenagers have increased.
Many of today’s youthful wants were significant adult dreams many years ago, and it is inspiring to watch young people accomplish incredible things. We should also consider the effect and influence that these factors have on our psychological well-being. It is true that some youngsters and adolescent superstars who came from the United States entertainment industry a few decades ago are now dealing with behavioral and psychological concerns.
Many people are addicted to drugs or alcohol.
Teens’ addiction to a variety of hazardous substances is quite concerning. According to statistics and studies, around 47% of 12th graders in the United States have experimented with illegal substances. Almost 12 million people between the ages of 18 and 25 use drugs on a monthly basis, and 4,777 people between the ages of 15 and 24 died as a result of an illicit drug overdose in just one year, according to some findings.
This guide is neither opposed to brilliant inventions and the early ascent of teenagers to celebrity, nor is it claiming that the rise of teenagers to stardom is the source of maladaptive conduct among them. Actually, I agree with it, but there must be a balance. However, in this case, all factors must be evaluated and critically examined. Nothing is worth the price of our mental and physical well-being. Everything must be in balance. Parents and guidance, as well as society, must take responsibility for instilling the appropriate mentality in the lives of teenagers and assisting those who are depressed and battling various behavioral and psychological disorders to recover from such a situation. There have been celebrities today who are doing well and have come to prominence early in life; such individuals should serve as role models for others; how they have navigated life’s storms and hurdles should be studied.
When a young lad rises to prominence, they often become the model for many people - too many of their age group or those coming behind, and even older age groups; while this is not a bad thing, it is also a form of pressure on the lad because a lot is expected of them. Many people get carried away, developing worry and tension.
To cope with the difficulties and remain on top of their game, some resort to substance and drug use, which only masks the pain and struggle for a short time and frequently leads to addiction.
From a little problem that may have been handled better and conquered to more major and deadly difficulties.
Other stresses and pressures that drive kids to different psychological and behavioral disorders include peer pressure and cultural standards. Who determines what we now refer to as norms or rights? The media and those who do not even live a normal lifestyle but are attempting to project their shortcomings onto the lifestyle of others heavily impact what we view as the standard - a way things should be done, particularly when it comes to many contentious ideas. We are presently living in a time when many types of individuals are attempting
