    Dedication

This first book in the Life Untold series is dedicated to my mother, my best friend, to honour and stand by her memory as she did for her children. Sadly, my mom passed away on June 19th, Father's Day, 2022, of stage 4 lung cancer metastasized to the brain, bones, kidneys and stomach, causing multiple tumours in the brain. You were always there, standing by your children no matter what we faced in life. Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Why I started here, this life experience forever changed me; my true life story was revealed.

To my family and friends, God gave me you in the ups and downs, and I’m so blessed. There are no words to show my appreciation for all your support. Thank you for choosing to be a part of my life!

To my sisters, we stood by one another when faced with adversity and uncertainty; life forever changed in these moments. Thank you for always being by my side!

You lived on to be good mothers, caring wives, hard workers, fierce, strong, independent, beautiful women inside and out. I’m so proud of you, as I know Mom is, too. I know life can sometimes separate us, but remember we are one connected in heart and soul no matter where life leads us, just as we are to to mom. She's always there, loving us unconditionally until we meet her again in eternal life. Keep slaying, Queens!

     Introduction

I'm Selina Girtie, born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in the summer of 1983. My nationality is Mother Canadian and Dutch; Father is Canadian, English and American Indigenous (Mohawk). Life hasn't always been easy for me, but what's life without experiences, hardships, love, heartache, hope, joy, sadness, fear, forgiveness and happiness.

Join me in hearing my truth and journey through the good, the bad, the ugly, and how I overcame abuse and struggled through childhood into womanhood with mental health and addiction. Ultimately, I found peace in my truth, a second chance at love, what it meant to love unconditionally, true forgiveness and my purpose in life to share my story and help you write yours. Do you believe God or the universe laid out a plan for you in your life, like your destiny? As the famous country song states, Next thing you know, there is always light down the road; never give up. Everything happens for a reason. You just need to see it.

The vision behind Life Untold was to write a letter as if I were talking to a trusted friend. Let out the trauma, and let it go. 10% of all book sales will be used to create the Selina Girtie Center.  A center for youth struggling through hardships such as abuse, hunger, mental health, addiction or even just a space for a kid to be a kid, not a worry in the world as it should be. When I see the center, I envision a non-medical building with white walls; local artists can come and paint murals just to be creative and themselves!

The center can offer meals, food or gift cards for those in need without judgment (we are all equal; we all struggle occasionally), no questions asked. I hear music and dancing every Friday night, like in the 90s, one of our favourite pastimes. Pool tables and arcade games are free of charge, and talking services such as counselling are also accessible and free as they are usually not covered by government health care: a safe space, a coping space, a space for our youth to be young and free. As mine was always the beach, I'd walk to the water to escape my hardships or reality. The beach, I found myself there 28 years later, healing, also a space
