    142-150

Allah Almighty points out that the ignorant people among the Jews, the hypocrites and those who ascribe partners to Him - those who do not know where their own good lies and are inclined to neglect their own interest - will ask, with hearts full of doubts, regarding the reason why Muslims stopped facing Jerusalem in their prayers. Therefore, He instructs His Prophet, Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to answer them, saying that to Him belong the East and the West and what lies between them, and therefore He has the prerogative to command Muslims to face any direction He wishes, and that He will guide anyone He wishes to follow the right path by obeying His command to face the Ka'bah during prayer, or any of His other commands, for that matter.

Just as Allah Almighty guided the nation of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the best direction of prayer, so He made them the most righteous and best nation to be witnesses over the rest of the nations before them, testifying that their prophets and messengers have faithfully conveyed to them the message of their Lord, and so that the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, will testify to the truthfulness of the testimony of this nation in this regard.

Then, addressing His Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, Allah the Almighty states that He first enjoined him and the Muslims to look towards Jerusalem in their prayers and then abrogated this ruling by ordering him to instead face the Ka'bah only as a test, to distinguish those who would obey the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, from those who would renounce their religion. Indeed, the change in the direction of prayer (qiblah) was too difficult to bear, but not for those whom Allah had guided. Allah then reassures the believers that under no circumstances will He withhold their reward for previously praying facing Jerusalem before they were commanded to change the direction of prayer, stating that such reward is with Him, Exalted and Glorified be He, for He is immensely merciful to humanity.

Allah Almighty then says to His Prophet, Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that many times He has seen him looking up at the sky, turning his face here and there, waiting for some revelation that would enlighten him about the change of  the qibla. Then He assures him that He will direct him to a qiblah that he will surely like, instructing him to pray in the direction of the Ka'bah and ordering the believers to pray facing the Ka'bah wherever they may be. The Jews and Christians know well, according to the information contained in their books, that Allah's command to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is certainly the truth. Allah Almighty is not at all unaware of those who know the truth but stubbornly deny it and categorically refuse to follow it.

Subsequently, Allah Almighty reveals to His Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the extent of the stubbornness of the Jews and Christians and their blind adherence to lies: Even if the Prophet had provided them with all sorts of evidence that the truth is what he brought regarding the change of qiblah from
