How to Thrive in Your Teens - Ella Bradley
CHAPTER 1
NAVIGATING FRIENDSHIPS
A woman and a man chatting in a forestFriendships, much like the seasons, change and evolve. During your teenage years, you'll find that making and keeping friends can be both a source of joy and a challenge. The art of friendship is not just about finding people who share your interests or make you laugh; it's also about building and nurturing respectful, supportive, and understanding relationships.
Making friends starts with being open to new connections. Remember, everyone is seeking that sense of belonging, just like you. Be the person who smiles first, asks questions, and shows genuine interest in others. Join clubs, teams, or groups that align with your interests. These extracurricular activities are opportunities to meet like-minded individuals who share your passions.
However, making friends is just the beginning. Keeping them requires effort, empathy, and communication. Be the friend you wish to have. Show up for your friends, not just during the fun times but especially during the tough ones. Listen to them with an open heart and without judgment. Celebrate their successes as if they were your own and offer your shoulder during their times of need.
Communication is the foundation of any strong friendship. Be honest but kind with your words. It's not just about what you say but how you say it. Misunderstandings are inevitable, but they can be resolved with patience and openness. Learn to express your feelings and needs clearly, and equally important, learn to listen. Sometimes, being a good friend means understanding what is left unsaid.
Respect boundaries, both yours and theirs. Every friendship is unique, and understanding each other's limits and comfort zones is crucial. This mutual respect builds trust, and trust is the foundation upon which lasting friendships are
