Forensic Wellness - Robert McElroy Ph.D.

    Highway 1

    Why Highways Instead of Chapters?

Weight control, weight loss, and wellness are like a series of highways.

Highways are more complex than chapters. Weight gain, weight loss, and a lifelong plan for weight control are comparable to highway systems and signage around the world because of the complexity and challenges to safely reaching your destination.

The term highway could include many different types of roads which permit access to travel environments across nations and continents. A highway system is composed of different types of roads and road elements. Some names to illustrate the complex diversity for the different types of roads would include: residential, alleys, street, collector, arterial, feeder, farm to market, limited access, toll, bridges, and tunnels.

Wellness is a series of highways and this book provides a framework toward ease of understanding your unique mindset and biomechanics to achieve weight control. Complex issues associated with weight gain will be addressed. An understandable and logical plan for weight control will be presented.

    Highway 2: My Story

Forensic STEM Wellness and Weight Loss = Train Your Mind to Lose Weight Permanently

Losing weight today is different than it was the first time for me.

In my early 20s, the United States was involved with the Vietnam war. The first Selective Service lottery drawing since 1942 was held on December 1, 1969. Out of 365 days in a year, everyone up to 195 was called. My number was 77. It was clear I was going into the military. You could get a one-year deferment by staying in college. I completed my Master’s degree in eight months. Figuring on four more months from the draft board, I secured admittance to the Doctoral program at Texas A&M. Immediately after completion of the Master’s degree my report for induction notice arrived. I decided that the best military decision was to enlist.

Intensity of college and graduate school resulted in my weight reaching 220 pounds. I came out of basic training at 202 pounds. Automobile racing as a driver began in high school and before the military. My continued involvement as a competitive driver permits quicker acceleration if you weigh less. My weight dropped to 160 and then 150. I remember eating a lot of lean meats and vegetables. I also remember limiting breads, sodas, and high-calorie drinks.

About 40 years later my weight was approaching 225. It was time to transition to a size 40 pant from a size 38. This was the wake-up moment. Why did the weight gain occur? Lifestyle and what you eat. However, losing weight today is definitely different than the first time.

My 21st-century weight loss success and journey included four key terms: 1) Forensic, 2) STEM, 3) Wellness, and 4) Weight Loss. These terms come together in a simple scientific way. This is an implementable plan that successfully deals with today’s complex and evolving world of life and personal
