The Bully Patrol - Kathy Auman
These books were meant to help anyone that feels they are being bullied regardless of age, gender, race, or social standing. Bullying comes in many different forms, but the end result is always the same. There is always a victim, but you don’t have to be one.
If you are experiencing this, remove yourself from the situation if you can. If you see this happening, intervene if you can or report it. Don’t just be a bystander, tell someone, a teacher, your parents, school resource officer, etc. And keep telling until something is done about it. We can make a difference if we all work together.
Chapter One
The School Year Is Winding Down
What a day. The excitement of testing for our black belts and all of us making it was awesome. The party back at our Dojo was a big surprise, too. I felt like it was all a dream. All of our hard work really paid off. I was so proud of myself, and I think the other girls felt the same way.
Now we have to buckle down and finish out the rest of the school year. With finals coming up, and end of the year school dance, we had plenty to do. The bully patrol was still going strong, and of course, we still had our martial arts classes.
Everything was going well, and we just wanted to get through the rest of the year with no problems. So far so good, or so we thought.
Olivia and I stayed after class one afternoon to help our teacher with a couple of other kids, and we wound up missing our bus home. Jason offered to drive us home, so we didn’t have to worry about that. When we were finished, we followed him into the parking lot where his car was parked and saw a large crowd of kids gathered around another group of kids, and everyone was cheering and yelling. We went over to see what was going on and saw David, one of our bully patrol members, on the ground, being beaten and kicked. He was trying to fight back but there were too many of them. So, all he could do was try to protect himself the best he could. We dialed the code for help on our phones and ran over to see if we could help him. When they saw us coming, they started to scatter, but the main four guys just stood there, staring at us. But at least they stopped beating on David. He was in bad shape, so I was glad they turned their attention on us. They started to move towards us, and Olivia and I looked at each other and said, Let’s go and get ready to fight.
Poor Jason didn’t know what to do, and just then the school resource officer and two teachers showed up. The situation was handled, and the police were called to take away the four thugs, and an ambulance was called for David. He was in pretty bad shape and had to go to the hospital to get checked out. We were questioned and let go, but we didn’t know how or why this started. We were all just glad we came along when we did.
The next day, we found out that David was just walking in the parking lot and got jumped by these thugs. He didn’t know why, either. His injuries were pretty bad, with a broken nose, two broken ribs, and a broken hand in two places. And, of course, bruises galore
