    Introduction

    Application for fellowship

    Dearly beloved,

    Are you seeking peace, health, prosperity, joy, preservation, wholeness, and freedom from the bondage of sin? Well there is a word that sums all this up; Salvation. So let’s rephrase the question; Are you seeking Salvation? Whether you said yes or no, I am here to let you know that this Salvation is actually seeking you! Do I make it sound like its a person? But of course, this Salvation is a Person and His Name is Jesus. And guess what? The meaning of that Name—Jesus is also salvation!

    By the way my name is Farai which means or can be directly translated as; Be happy or rejoice! In fact, my name is the first word that came out of Jesus’ mouth after He rose from the dead and met the women who were in transit to tell His disciples that they hadn’t found His body in the grave;

    And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying,

    ‘Rejoice!’ And they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him"  (Matthew 28:9).

    Literally in the bible version of my mother tongue which is Shona, Jesus said, Farai!

    And since this is the first word that He said when He met the group of women (proving also that it is His first desire and priority to see us rejoicing), I feel honoured that He chose someone like me who bears the name that encapsulates His wish. I like to see people happy but oftentimes many of them give me reasons why they aren’t or can’t be happy.

    More often than not, It’s always something to do with finances; health issues; broken relationships; untimely loss of loved ones; addictions; midlife crisis; heartbreaks; miserable marriages; sense of purposelessness; unfulfilled desires; dissatisfaction with self appearance, skin complexion or weight; miscarriages; unfavourable circumstances like unemployment, single parenting; uncertainty about the future, regrettable or painful past such as being a victim of sexual, emotional or physical abuse; perpetual guilt over abortion and other past regrets, the list goes on and on.

    However, Jesus (Salvation) spoke this way; ...In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. (John 16:33).

    And having overcome the world He said, Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid... (John 14:27).

    Dearly beloved, there is the peace that surpasses understanding seeking you. The peace for your conscience, heart and life is in this salvation called Jesus who is seeking you. And now that you are reading this, it means He has found you or at least got your attention. What is left for you is to receive Him that you may enjoy rest for He has also said, Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest... (Matthew 11:28). Do you seek rest my friend? This is what He wants to give you and so much more. He said, "...I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)." (John 10:10 AMP).

    This life means a relationship with the Father to whom belongs this Salvation. You see there are many religions in the world yet all follow the same pattern which is that of pleasing their deities in order to earn a reward. But this Person, this Salvation says, Do not be afraid I am your shield and your exceedingly great reward (Genesis 15:1). He seeks not a religion for you rather a relationship with you. You will not have to struggle for love, peace and joy or for anything because He is in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).

    Therefore to you my friend, beloved of God, I now submit His resume hoping that you will employ the Lord Jesus Christ into your heart to work in you what is well pleasing in His sight. And as you know with all resumes the contents include the applicant’s name, address, contact details, objective, summary statement, experience, skills, qualifications, achievements, and lastly a reference letter submitted upon request.

    You will find that in the resume of Jesus Christ each category is rich with revelation and treasures of salvation that will dynamically transform your life. I urge you to consider it well that you may fully employ His grace to reign in and through you. The funny thing is you do not even have to pay Him anything for the work He will do in, through and for you but He in actual fact will pay you for simply allowing Him to fulfil His purpose in you. How gracious is that! He first gives you grace then credits you for the grace that He gave you! Amazing Lord He is.

    You say, but Farai, I am a believer already. Well in that case read His resume and let Him do the work from now on. You have been on the driver’s seat all this time but now heed the wisdom of the Psalmist; "He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake." (Psalm 23:3). Step aside now and demote yourself from been your own leader and be led by Him. Religion has blinded you all these years making you think that you are to work for Him, His love, approval and blessings when He is actually the One to work in, through and for you to the Glory of God the Father since you are already loved, approved and blessed by Him unconditionally..

    Employ Him now into your situation, whatever it is; Are you broken-hearted? Are you confused? Are you sick? Do you wish you had never been born? Do you seek deliverance from yourself?

    Let us get straight into the interview and see how the Lord answers not only all your questions but shows Himself as the ANSWER of life.  We will begin by reading His application letter below.

    Alas a tip; be open minded, this is not a self-help book to boost your self-esteem but rather a Christ-centred book to deliver you from self and give you a Christ-esteem that keeps your spirit, soul, and body in His rest—peace, joy, power, strength, and all that He is.

    My dearest beloved

    You might not know Me, but before I, Jesus, formed you in the womb, I knew you through and through and called you to be mine. I loved you before the foundation of the world. And I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore, with loving-kindness I have drawn you to Myself.

    What I seek from you, my Beloved one, is for us to be one just as I and My Father, the one true God, are one. I seek to be one with you; I in you, you in Me that My peace, love, joy, righteousness, and Power be yours.

    O how I wish you would abide in My love; a love whose width, length, depth and breath are immeasurable; a love that made me die for you that you may be freed from the dominion of sin; a love that made me endure the shame of the cross when they spat on me, mocked me, stripped me naked, scourged me, pierced me, for I said, if this is what I must go through to save you then let it be so! O, bring it on! I will suffer for him, I will endure it for him, whatever wrongs he did, and will ever do let the condemnation be upon Me! Wound Me for all his transgressions! Crush Me for his iniquities! Let every just reward for his sin fall on Me! For I desire that this beloved one of Mine be made free to enjoy eternal life.

    And just as a parent would hate what a disease is doing to their child, likewise I hated what sin was doing to you my beloved thus I took it upon myself to bear its burden, its curse, even to become it and receive its punishment that you might become the righteousness of God in Me!

    When I came on the earth through a virgin, it was whose genealogy had four women that religious people would not expect to be mentioned in the lineage through which I—the Holy One of God would be made manifest. And these are; Rahab the harlot, Ruth a Moabite disqualified by divine law, Beersheba an adulteress, and Tamar a pervert who lay with her father-in-law. By this I endeavoured to relay a message to you my beloved: that your past has no bearing in my love and that no matter how dark it is, I am your light yesterday, today and forever.

    Though like Rahab, you prostituted yourself with the world, and though like Ruth, you have felt disqualified by your background, and though in the spirit of Tamar’ identity crisis by relational controversy, you say, ‘I was adopted, I am a child of rape, an addict,’ and though you in like manner of Beersheba’s weakness you had an affair with the world, seeking the peace it promised but did not give, and all you were left with was guilt, condemnation, self pity, seeking the approval of others, a slave to what they say about you; I came with the purpose of eradicating such a past; I came with a new present even a better future.

    That was and is my love for you! Not that you loved Me but that I loved you and gave Myself for you.

    O how I wish that you would understand that love. It is the love that the world has not known because they ask, ‘if He loved me, then why am I so miserable and poor?’ ‘ Where was he when I was abused, forsaken, grieving, broken, hungry?’ ‘ Where is the love even now when everything in my life is a mess; my marriage, my career, my relationships, my finances, my health?’ And failing to get answers to these questions, they lament one after the other, ‘I wish I was never born!’ ‘I wish I could just die now for perhaps it is better that way!’ ‘Others have it altogether yet I alone am left to suffer!’ ‘Why me!’ ‘Life is so unfair!’ ‘God does not exist because if He does, then He is so cruel and insensitive to the sufferings of this world!’

    For they did not know Me, having been blinded from the truth, but as for you My beloved one, you will now know Me for I have appointed my dear servant, Farai whose name means be happy! to bring happiness to you in the revelation of My resume.

    You will finally see that I am here to give you Myself, for I alone can fill that void that many to no avail have sought to fill through acquisitions of material possessions, relentless pursuits of wealth, beauty surgeries, spiritual expeditions, purchase of purportedly anointed accessories from false prophets for instant eradication of problems, emotional health therapies, self-mortifying religions, sexual relationships, euphoric drugs and various pleasures that drown men in perdition. Dearest, this is My application for fellowship. See you soon!

    Lovingly Yours,

    Jesus Christ, the Son of God

    Chapter 1

    THE NAME

    I am Jesus...

    —Acts 9:5

    The name Jesus in its original Aramaic Hebrew version is the name Yeshua, which means God saves or God is salvation. This tallies with the purpose for which He was given this Name as recorded in the Gospel according to Matthew, ....and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21). But what is salvation? One might ask, My life is great; I’m rich and successful, and I live a morally upright life, so what is it that I need saving from? Another might say, "My life is a big mess but what can the Name of Jesus do for me?  Is it just a name for spiritual matters as I have always heard or does it also transcend into physical issues?"

    The Name that makes us one with God

    The first thing that the Name does for and to an unbeliever when he believes and calls on it, is deliverance from the bondage of sin while at the same time transforming or regenerating the person into a son or daughter of the Most High God who made all things.

    Cornelius the Centurion was said to be; A devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.

    —Acts 10:2

    Yet with his holy resume, he was still unqualified not only to be a son of God but to receive the Holy Spirit. However, God in His grace sent an angel to him who instructed him on inviting the Apostle Peter to preach at  his house. Now when Peter was preaching in the house of this devout Cornelius, it was when he made mention of the Name of Jesus that something glorious happened. Let’s find out the exact details from Acts 10:43-44;

    "To Him (Jesus) all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word." (Boldface mine)

    Amazingly, when Peter was speaking these words of remission of sins through Jesus’s Name, the Spirit of God fell upon the people who heard these words of life. So my friend whilst you might be rich and claim your life is exactly where you want it to be, you are without life if you have not known the Name of Jesus because as things stand you are not a child of God neither do you have His Spirit; Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. (Romans 8:9)

    Don’t you want to be a son or daughter of the Most High God who made heaven and earth, and of whom are all things including the source of peace and joy? The solution is in John 1:12;

    "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name." (boldface mine)

    In the Name of Jesus, you are given the right to become God’s son or daughter and that also means you have a life that extends beyond this life. There are things that money can not do. Remember you came into this world naked and so you shall leave it thus;

    For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

    —1 Timothy 6:7

    However, in the Name of Jesus you have the life, the abundant life that goes beyond the pleasures of material possessions, the life of unlimited fellowship with God, inner peace, bliss, and favour in a world of turmoil and darkness. By default, we are born sinners, and that means we are already sinners even before we have committed any act of sin. The reason why we actually sin is because of the sin nature we are inherently born with. I will share more on this later.

    However, what you need to understand right now is that every person whether born into a rich family or poor one, whether well behaved and devout like Cornelius or not, is in need of a new identity or nature that is not under; the power of Satan; the curse and judgement of God pronounced in the garden where the first man sinned; and the sentence to eternal damnation. The means to having this new identity or nature is through the Name of Jesus Christ;

    For ‘whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.’

    —Romans 10:13

    Therefore, the essence of salvation in the name of Jesus is not primarily a saving from the fires of
