About this ebook

Enough with the lies. This book refutes the lies of most churches concerning giving--lies designed to cause fear of a curse instead of faith in Jesus Christ. We dissect the false claims and bring forth the truth. This is a truth found only in the Bible. We hold true to 2 Timothy 2:15 as we "study" and "rightly divide the word of truth" (KJV).

    Dedication

Ayoung teenaged boy walked into the house and to the dining room table where his mother sat. With a look of frustration on his face, he sat across from her and said, I don't think I can believe in God anymore.

The woman looked sympathetically at her son and said, But, honey, doesn't it say, ‘Blessed is he who does not see and yet believes'?

Years later, I was able to pray with that woman to receive Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was the woman who resparked my belief in God. She was my mom.

To her, I dedicate this text of love.

Why I Choose to Believe the Bible

    By Voddie Baucham

Ichoose to believe the Bible because it's a reliable collection of historical documents written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies and claim that their writings are divine rather than human in origin.

    The Journey

Semantics is basically the study of words and their meanings. Words mean things. If I say cat , the thought or picture that comes to mind is the furry four-legged animal with pointy ears that chases mice and runs from dogs, unless you think of big cats that have a larger appetite than mice. But see, the word cat has meaning. You don't visualize a cup of coffee or a picnic table when the word cat is used because that word has meaning. So it is with the Word of God. God's Word has meaning. That is one reason the scripture in 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) commands us, Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

It's because the Word has meaning. Every word in the Word has meaning. Because those words have meaning, they convey the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we have a responsibility to study, not just read the Word of God, so that when doctrine is brought forth within and without the church, we can rightly divide the word of truth. W. E. Vine states the meaning of the word divide this way: The meaning passed from the idea of cutting or dividing, to the more general sense of rightly dealing with a thing. What is intended here is not dividing Scripture from Scripture but teaching Scripture accurately. Charles Spurgeon once said, Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.

There are many non-Christians who know the Word better than Christians. Many people have been led astray by not knowing the Word. Why else are there so many cults? Listening to tapes is fine if it inspires you to get into the Word and find God's will for your life. God will speak to you personally if you let Him. The Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance all that I said to you (John 14:26). There is a catch, though: You have to find out what Jesus said.

When I was in the US Navy and had been saved just a couple of months, I had a brother in the Lord to whom I confided concerning my struggles. He would counsel me and pray with me each time. One day, he hit me with such wisdom that I have never forgotten it.

I was going through some struggles that we, as Christians, do so often as we strive to walk with Christ. I came to him with a particular problem, and after listening patiently, he looked at me and asked, Well, Pat, what does the Word say?

    I responded a little sheepishly, I don't know.

He then said, Pat, don't you think you should find out, now here is that wisdom, because I could lie to you.

The moment he said that, I heard bells and warning whistles going off through my mind in a split second, and my mind was crying out, He's right. He's right. He could lie
