About this ebook

Thomas Crane was never really one for company. The man always worked best alone. Thomas was a rough sort who preferred the company of his horse and dog more than people. This innate nature of Thomas to stay away from the company of people usually caused him a lot of trouble. Oftentimes, Thomas even believed that he was more than a little cursed. After all, wasn't it written in the Good Book that "No man is an island?" Or that "the greatest love that a man could have was to die for his friends?" In both cases, and in others, Thomas often found himself at the complete and opposite end of things. After all, how could a man die for his friends, if he didn't even have any in the first place? That was Thomas Crane for you, and that was the curse that he had to carry for the rest of his life. Several stories have been told about the man. Who is to say, what is the truth from fiction? This is but one of the stories. This is the story of Thomas Crane getting a wife for himself.

Thomas Crane The Lonely Man - The Cursed Mine - John J. Law

    One: A Risky Proposition.

After all, wasn't it written in the Good Book that No man is an island? Or that the greatest love that a man could have was to die for his friends? In both cases, and in others, Thomas often found himself at the complete and opposite end of things.

Thomas lived in the time of the Wild West, when justice and the rule of law were often only relative to where someone was. In such a rough and violent era, Thomas carved a life for himself. It was not easy, but somehow he managed, and he was even remembered for it.

This is the spot. Thomas spoke with a cold and flat voice. If you heard him speak, you might think that the man was bereft of a soul, but you would be very mistaken. Despite his solitary and rough nature, Thomas was human, just like anyone else. Sometimes, it just wasn't evident.

Thomas stood in front of the cave entrance. The bare and rough rock face beckoned him to enter. It was pitch black inside, but that did not deter Thomas. He had seen a lot worse things than a dark cave, and he entered without any hesitation.

Thomas left three men in front of the cave, waiting for him.

Do you believe that Crane hit the spot? Could this really be that abandoned mine we've heard rumors about? One of the men asked.

Another man shrugged his shoulders in response. Who knows? Regardless of the outcome, I believe we made the right choice coming here.

The other cowboy nodded and tipped his hat at the other men. I agree with Reuben. We really didn't have much to lose trusting that loner. If it is the mine, it's three against one. We can easily take him, and take the gold for ourselves, he said.

Exactly. And if it was all a wild goose chase, well, you have to try something in these desperate times, the other man said.

The other cowboy nodded. "I guess you're both
