About this ebook

Songs and Letters is a compilation of poems, essays, and epistles. These were created throughout the author's adolescence and adulthood and cover a variety of sociological subjects, including death, love, and morality. In it, we observe the author's growth in knowing God and her knowledge of service to God. In a world where hate and animosity seem to be the norm for many devout people, this book offers a commentary on the nature of God. If the God you know teaches hate, not love, then it is not God you know.

The book also reflects on the nature of personal relationships with God. Special emphasis on American values and hubris is included, as is an "Epistle to the Children."

It is hoped that the reader will learn from this book--about themselves and about their world--and that the reader will attain a closer, deeper relationship with the God they recognize. God is bigger than any one religion.

Peace.

    About the Author

    Dedicated to Stanford D. Berman

    His life is a quiet mitzvah.

    Caring when other don't care;

    Angry at any injustice

    Even if he's treated fair.

    His life is a quiet mitzvah.

    Loving the poor and distressed;

    Giving without reservation

    Of all that is his, of his best.

    His life is a quiet mitzvah.

    And my greatest blessing in life

    Is the duty and joy…is the honor…

    Is the privilege of being his wife.

    Epistle to the Americans

    Chapter 1

    Dear friends,

    The times we live in are difficult, and we are unsure of many things. These words are sent to you so that you might remember the things you are sure of.

    We are sure of the love of God.

    We may know God in different ways, even as my child knows me differently than you. Yet both you and my child know the same being, even though neither of you knows me completely.

    So do not disdain or condemn another because of the way he or she knows God.

    This is as if my child should condemn you because I am not your parent. None of us knows God completely; we are none of us big enough for that.

    And we know that God teaches us to love each other and respect one another, so respect the different ways that others love God.

    God is love.

    If the God you know teaches hate, not love, then it is not God you know.

    Constantly try to get to know God better, to reach out toward heaven, even as God reaches out to you.

    God will always help you grow and reach.

    The person you should most pity and pray for is the person who does not try to grow, reach, and know. This person cannot know God.

    Perhaps he or she believes they have all the answers about God.

    But love is a process, never-ending. We can never know all about the infinite God.

    Perhaps he or she does not believe in God. This person cannot know God.

    You cannot understand something you do not believe in; you can only fantasize about it.

    Therefore, strive to know
