About this ebook

Each aphorism is a gem inspired by Lawrence A. Weil's grandfather's appreciation for his first bundle of joy, his mother. He named her Pearl.

Encouragement to publish a book of aphorisms came from Lawrence's pastor who was served up a new on Sundays while the two prepared for worship. Many Sundays passed before Lawrence was satisfied that he had produced enough rhetorical thought that would capture the reader's imagination. Thanks go to Pastor Ron Unger, Pastora Rachel Ringlaben, and Phyllis Fitch for further encouragement.

    The Belief Trilogy

In the vastness of infinity, there is room for only one almighty. Science is His method. Love is His purpose. Faith statement: I believe that God is indeed omniscient. What does that mean? Nothing escapes His scrutiny. Nothing! Humanity’s failings are simple. Any rejection of God’s word, even the slightest, puts humanity at a disadvantage with the whole of its own knowledge. Mystery—God wants us to ask questions. When you ask questions, you show that you are interested. Interest indicates concern. Concern leads to action, which strengthens the relationship. Disinterest is fodder for sin. Ambivalence is the left hand of sin. It allows the spirit to be influenced by the wrong god.

Romancing God—God, being omniscient, by definition there would be no mystery to hold His interest. Mystery is an essential ingredient in any good relationship. It is the seasoning that keeps fresh the romance. Then, what can its substitute be? Free will. Though loyalty is prerequisite for God’s terms of communion, He will not dissolve man’s will to reject Him. That is God’s seasoning.

Curiosity abides in the thinking mind. Without curiosity, mystery is neutered. You have being. You have connection with fellow human beings. A sad thought: there would never be a meeting with the dearly departed. I can accept that you do not accept my dogma. I do not necessarily accept yours. You do not have to wear my underwear, and I do not care that you do not like chocolate ice cream. We are different on our outlook on life. Our needs do not coincide. Our desires, our prospects, and our expectations are in different realms. We don’t even know each other that well. Our commonality is that we are here at the pleasure of God. Yes, the world is screwed up. However, there is hope for people of faith. Even for those who contribute to the malaise, (all contribute, it’s called sin) there is hope. Gospel means good news. Without His answer to sin, there is no hope. It is incumbent on the Christian to not
