While the ventricles, the lower chambers, pump blood out to the body and lungs, the atria, the top chambers, receive blood from the body and lungs.

    The heart is a magnificent pump that works nonstop to maintain the blood's steady flow throughout the body. Every time our heart beats, oxygen-rich blood is sent to every part of our body, giving our cells the food they require to survive. The blood that has lost oxygen is then obediently collected and sent to the lungs for a revitalising oxygen injection, ready to begin the cycle again.

    Let's now examine the essential components of the anatomy of the heart in more detail. The pericardium, a double-layered sac that surrounds and supports the heart, acts as both shield and support. The epicardium, the heart's outermost covering, is a robust layer of protection that keeps the organ safe from harm from the outside world.
