AUTHOR’S NOTE
Do you remember as a kid being surprised or shocked when the family revealed their stories about the good old days? And oh, what tales they could tell! Those stories were told at every family get-together and became highlights on each occasion. Many of the stories resulted in laughter, heart-warming moments, and embarrassment. Their memories taught us about our roots and enriched the bond among family members.
Now, it’s your turn to record those often-told tales and the accounts of your life so future generations can be inside those moments with you.
You may think you have not lived an extraordinary life, but each person’s life is special and precious to God. You do have an important story to tell!
We look for visions of heaven
and we never dream that all the time,
God is in the commonplace things and people around us.
—Oswald Chambers
Interest in telling my life story ignited when my writer friend shared her great, great, great grandfather’s journal with the members of our writers’ group. I was smitten by the minister’s account when, within the pages, he brought to life the lives of people living in London, England, in the early 1800s. As an eyewitness to history, he shared the sights, sounds, and emotions from 150 years ago. What a treasure his journal is for his family and all the generations who read his account and to those who came after him.
His story compelled me to write about my life experiences as a legacy for my children and the next generations. In writing a spiritual memoir, I can be a witness to God’s love so my children will know how important my faith is to my life and theirs. Through my sharing, I bring readers the Good News of God’s love, forgiveness, and promise of eternal life.
For twenty years, I’ve had the privilege to present workshops and to speak at events about life storytelling. The life storytelling workshops inspired me to draft a book to encourage everyday people to record their stories, Your Words, Your Life Story: A Journal for Sharing Memories, Book #1 in the Books for Life Storytellers Series. I combined my love of teaching and skills in writing fiction and
