How can writing improve wellbeing?
Writing has so many benefits. It can be a joyful, creative experience. It can be a calming, healing practice which centres us. Personally, I find I have more patience, compassion and enthusiasm for everything and everyone after a writing session, just as I do after a yoga class, so in that way my writing is also good for my family.
Writing can help us release old stories and write new ones. It can help us get present, pay attention to our lives, appreciate what we have and stand in awe at the mystery of it all (which is a fantastic antidote to day-to-day worries about things that don’t really matter). If we choose to share our words and they resonate deeply with someone, we strengthen our sense of meaning, belonging and connection.
