About Five Powerful Tools
What is the Inspiration for this Book?
It started with accountability. Working as an accountability mentor for business owners and people in recovery inspired this book. While talking with my clients, I noticed some common areas where we each seemed to get stuck. Digging a little deeper revealed some belief systems that needed altering to affect change. The five powerful tools are the most common ways to move forward. The exercises within the book provide tactical methods to affect the change. In no way are these the only methods, but they are an excellent starting point.
What is the Purpose of this Book?
This book should be used in a group. Working with a leader, people can be in a safe, moderated environment designed to foster change and accountability. They will also have time set apart to complete the exercises. The workshop environment should be friendly, supportive, and understanding. Transparency is a form of leadership, so the leaders should be truly transparent. This workshop should be held with a New Testament foundation which includes love and grace, reserving judgement, and providing a space to foster growth. Having a prayer room open during the workshop times is recommended, and counseling resources should be on hand for referral in case people remember past traumas or struggle with the topics.
This book can also be used independently, but I would recommend a personal mentor or a group of friends to work together with it.
What are the Five Powerful Tools?
The five powerful tools are forgiveness, prayer, boundaries, gratitude, and accountability. These tools can work independently, or in concert, and they help us overcome roadblocks in our lives— both personally and professionally.
Tools are just pathways or strategies for how to address issues in our lives. Each tool in our toolbox can help us become more mature and walk in strength and courage. They can help shift our mindsets and move us from focusing on our weaknesses to operating in our strengths. The intent of this workshop is to provide you with more tools—better tools—to grow to become who you are called to be.
Why these 5 Powerful Tools?
I have found in my personal and professional life that changes in these areas are the ones most likely to provide breakthroughs and healing in our minds, bodies, and souls. Within each chapter are overarching strategies and tactics for using these tools specifically and intentionally in our lives.
Who can the 5 Powerful Tools help?
This workshop and book can be a useful resource for a variety of individuals. Again, recognizing that some people have unresolved trauma in their lives, this book is not a replacement for professional therapy, but the tools themselves: forgiveness, prayer, boundaries, gratitude, and accountability can and should be used by everyone in their lives. Personal activities can be done in the privacy of your home, or with someone with whom you feel safe. Group activities may make some people uncomfortable and should be at the participant’s discretion whether to proceed.
Author’s Note
There are many books, ideas, philosophies, and techniques on how to grow, what to change, and how to change it. There are many why’s, how’s and what to do’s to bring about significant change in your life. So why this book, and why these tools, specifically?
As I’ve encountered challenges and made the wrong decisions in life, I’ve found that it was only my relationship with God, through Christ, that brought me through to the other side. I have hit rock bottom, and still, I reached out to God. As I’ve grown and matured in my own life, there have been many battles that I have fought and won based on that relationship alone. During this journey, I’ve used these tools to conquer grief, pain, and fear. I have also used them with others to help them grow and heal.
As we will learn in the prayer section, the prayers we teach during our seminar are templates, tools, or pathways. While you can certainly repeat them verbatim, we would rather that you keep the intent of the prayer and make it your own. Our conversations with God are just that—conversations—and they should be real to you, pertinent to you, and in your own words. So, for the purpose of this seminar/book, every prayer will have the intent, and the key focus written down. Then, when you craft your own prayers, you can follow the intent and focus on your own conversation with God.
The First Powerful Tool: Forgiveness
Forgiveness is an action which frees us from bitterness and fear.
Forgiveness usually needs to happen in three key areas of life:
Forgiving self
Forgiving others
Forgiving God
Once forgiveness begins, you see the result of its power in a few areas:
Reconciliation with others
Greater understanding of ourselves
Freedom in our relationship with God
Forgiveness is a
