About this ebook

I’m sure you may be familiar with the saying “WWJD”—“What would Jesus do?” Well, here is a new one for you: “WWJS”—“What would Jesus say?” That’s right, “What would Jesus say?” WWJS. I’m sure if you are anything like me, you would like to quote Jesus. Now you may be able to quote a line or two, but wouldn’t it be nice to have more quotes at the ready? Well, now you can. Jesus Said will help prepare you to quote our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And in our current world environment, all Christians should be sharing the words and wisdom of Jesus. I truly believe Jesus Said will coach you in your discussions with, say, your Bible study class or spread the words of Jesus to nonbelievers. So let’s spread the word “WWJS.”

    My dear friends,

I hope this letter finds you well and in good health.

How many times have you heard someone say Jesus said this or that? So I thought, what if you ask someone at random, being it a friend, family, coworker, etc., tell me something Jesus said. Of course, some people will be able to quote a book, a chapter, and a verse. But not most. Some will say Jesus said Turn the other cheek or Father, forgive them for they know not what they do or maybe even quote John 3:16. And to be frank with you, that's about all I knew before putting this book together.

So what I did, as God spoke to my heart, was to take the four gospels, the Books of Acts, and Revelation, strip out everything, and keep only the direct quotes of either Jesus or God. I started with the Gospel of Luke since the earliest quote of Jesus appears in Luke when he was just twelve years old. I followed that up with the books of Matthew, Mark, and John, the conversion of Saul to the Apostle Paul in Acts, and finished up with the book of Revelation.

Now reading just Jesus's side of the conversation may not always make sense. For example, in Luke 7, when Jesus said, Don't cry. Young man, I say to you, get up! Who was he talking to? What was the situation? Do you want to know more? That is my goal. That you will want to know more, that you will take that dusty Bible off the shelf, open it to Luke 7, and read the full conversation.

If you are new to reading the Bible, the Gospels (which means Good News) of Luke, Matthew, Mark, and John are eyewitness biographies of the life and times of our Savior Jesus Christ. So as you might expect, there are a lot of similarities among the Gospels.

My hope is that this book will inspire you to continue reading the Bible.

    God bless.

    Truly yours,

    R. C. Worthington

    The Gospel of Luke

Luke, an evangelist of our Lord Jesus Christ, was a physician and did not know Jesus personally. He became a follower after his death and resurrection when Paul taught him the gospel. He talked with many of the apostles as well as others who were eyewitnesses to special events or moments in Jesus's life. One of the most amazing stories Luke wrote about was the birth of Jesus, and he may have gotten his information about Jesus's birth from Mary herself. Luke's gospel was written to strengthen the faith of all believers and to answer the attacks of unbelievers. It was presented to debunk some disconnected and ill-found reports about Jesus. He wanted to show that the place of the Gentile Christian in God's kingdom is based on the teaching of Jesus.

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness

It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone. It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only. It is said: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.

    Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing. Surely you will quote this proverb to me: Physician, heal yourself! And you will tell me, do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum. Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, only Naaman the Syrian.

Jesus Drives Out an Impure Spirit

Be quiet! Come out of him!

    Jesus Heals Many

I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.

    Jesus Calls His First Disciples

Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Don't be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.

Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy

I am willing. Be clean! Tell no one, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded.

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

Friend, your sins are forgiven. Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? Which is easier: to say; your sins are forgiven, or to say, get up and walk? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.

Jesus Calls Levi and Eats with Sinners

Follow me. It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

    Jesus Questioned about Fasting

Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast. No one tears a piece out of a new garment to patch an old one. Otherwise, they will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine will burst the wineskins and be spilled, and the wineskins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins, and both are preserved. And no one, having drunk old wine, immediately desires new; for he says, the old is better.

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath

Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions. The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. Get up and stand in front of everyone. I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it? Stretch out your hand.

    Blessings and Woes

Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their ancestors treated the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort. Woe to you who are well fed now, for you will go hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep. Woe to you when everyone speaks well of you, for that is how their ancestors treated the false prophets.

    Love for Enemies

But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you. If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

    Judging Others

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit? The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye, when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly
