About The Author
Introduction
Prayer is needed in every culture, in every race, in every home, in every school, and in every age group. Prayer is needed globally and is often only reached for when one is in trouble. Could you imagine prayer being a regimen in our daily lives? We wouldn’t reach for God only when we are in trouble. We would make it our business to build a relationship with him through prayer and we would know He is already there when we need Him. God desires a relationship with us. He created us for this purpose alone to have a relationship with us. He created Adam to have a relationship with Him and He spent time with him daily. When we take out the time to spend with Him, He makes Himself available to us. We all should know how to pray to our God and we should always pray without ceasing. Prayer is never my last resort. It is my only resort. I could never imagine having a relationship with someone and claiming them to be a part of my life and never talk to them. What kind of relationship would that be? The most important people in my life, I must communicate with them every day. Husbands should speak with their spouses every day, and parents should speak to their children every day. Prayer is so essential to our lives, we should TRY PRAYER first. Prayer should be the first thing we do in the morning, and prayer should be the last thing we do at night.
Prayer should never be intimidating, because we must look at prayer as a conversation to our Father. Your Father should not be a stranger to you. We should always be able to talk to our Father. Some of us may not have a personal relationship with our birth father, but we should desire a relationship with our heavenly Father. It’s our Fathers who are supposed to give us guidance, security, protection, and provision. Prayer is having a one-on-one conversation with our Father. Communication is key in any relationship. It helps build a bond. I don’t just go to my Father when I need something or when I’m in trouble. I love spending time with my natural Father and I love spending time with my heavenly Father. We are not strangers. We know each other. Think about it. Would you go to a stranger and ask him for what you would ask your Father for? I don’t think so. When I spend time with my Father, there is a comfort and a peace I get just to be in His presence. It’s never a one-sided conversation. My Father and I often spend hours talking about life. Even with our Heavenly Father, it is never a one-sided conversation, He speaks back. Who would want to talk to someone who doesn’t speak back? The Bible says the day you hear his voice harden not your heart. That means the Lord speaks to His children. We must listen, learn His voice and know when He is speaking. When no one else is there for me, I know my Father will always be there for me. Can I tell you the Father will always be there for us? The Father is there for us even before we come to Him. The story of the prodigal son is an amazing story to me because after he ran out of his money, he knew he could return to his Father. His father was waiting on him, and his father would not reject him. His father forgave him and welcomed him with open arms. No matter how much trouble we get in, or how many problems we face, our Father in heaven never rejects us. He always forgives us and welcomes us with open arms.
When the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray, He first lets them know in Matthew
