To my mother, who has always believed in my writing.

    Chapter one

I woke up the next morning and prepared for church like any other Sunday. However, I had a nagging feeling that something unpleasant was going to happen soon.

As I got dressed, I grabbed a bowl of cereal and began scrolling through Facebook, as I usually did during breakfast. Suddenly, I stumbled upon a post that left me stunned.

Mitch Black is now in a relationship.

I couldn't believe it. How dare he suggest that we were in a relationship after I had clearly rejected him? As I read through the comments, I became increasingly furious. They were all congratulating him and speculating about who he was dating.

He does have a point, though. He could be seeing someone else, Carrie pointed out.

Are you kidding me? I scoffed. I just went on a date with him last night. Do you think he's seeing someone else already?

Okay, you're right. Maybe you should just stay away from him. Delete him from Facebook and block him, she suggested.

    But why? I asked.

Because he's acting weird, she said matter-of-factly. And you don't want to be around people like that. Especially those with strange obsessions.

She had a point. Maybe I should talk to Pastor Martin about this, I mused.

Good luck with that. Mom and Dad are still sleeping, Carrie reminded me.

I looked at the time and realized it was already noon. Darn it, I got dressed for nothing, I grumbled, feeling even more
