Love Lessons - Terri D
Prologue
After releasing Passport Wife in 2018, it was my intention to write a sequel. I started a blog The Dominican Housewife Chronicles and have since started a Kindle Vella series under the same name. It chronicles my time living in the Dominican Republic as a Dominican housewife. As life, not luck would have it, this book serves a dual purpose. First it will tie up the loose ends of what happened after the Passport Wife and Dominican Housewife Chronicles stories, and it will also share some things that I’ve learned along my love journey.
The passport wife chapter of my life is over. My 3rd divorce was recently finalized. So you’re probably thinking why in the world should you listen to ANYTHING I have to say about love right? Well maybe you shouldn’t BUT I can tell you that I have learned a lot about love in my 55 years of living. I do not claim to know everything because I’m still living and learning but I truly believe that I am

supposed to share what I have learned so that others can benefit from my lessons.
My love lessons journey did not start in 2016 when I met husband #3, in fact it started way back before I ever laid eyes on husband #1 in 1987. I am a self-proclaimed hopeless romantic. For many decades I sought love outside of myself and after my second divorce in 2001, I decided to focus on showing love to others in everyday life. My focus shifted from searching for that long lost romantic love that I had been craving to just trying to enjoy my life. Spend time with my family and friends and help others when I could. Husband #3 was not supposed to happen, but it did.
Life throws you all types of curve balls and challenges along the way. I now believe that sometimes we are faced with the same challenges over and over again until we finally learn the lesson. Each time it’s disguised a little differently but lo and behold when you’re smack dab in the middle of it, you recognize something oh so familiar. Remember the saying it’s not the problem but how you handle it that

matters? Well that also applies to love in every way.
We come into this world learning how to receive love. Eventually we learn how to give love and somewhere along the way we learn about all the diverse types of love there are in the world for us to experience. I invite you to come along with me as I take you through my love lessons journey. You may laugh, you may cry, but most of all I do hope that some of what you read will make you think.
You can’t really begin to appreciate love until your heart has been broken. And you can’t really begin to appreciate happiness until you’ve known sadness.
Susan Gale.

Chapter 1 What is love?
Everyone has their own definition of love and if you’re anything like most people that definition changes as you go through life and you learn and grow. This is my definition of love as I’ve encountered love along my love journey.
As an impressionable pre-teen watching the movie Endless Love I thought love was about intense passion, great sex, nothing can stop us from being together, burning down houses to be together type stuff. If you are reading this and you have never seen that movie put this book down and go watch that movie please. At my current age I now realize there were significant issues that needed to be dealt with in that movie. The first issue being why did my mother think it was
