Think Less Feel More - Michael A. Garcia

    CHAPTER ONE

    Introduction

My Journey: From Fear to Fearlessness

Growing up in Kingsburg, CA, fear was an ever-present companion in my life. My name is Michael Allen Garcia, born October 15 1993, and my early years were marked by a ton of challenges. The reluctance to grasp new opportunities, the trepidation with which I approached learning new skills, and the self-doubt that overshadowed my aspirations were the shadows that followed me. I was caught in a web of hesitations, allowing the fear of the unknown and the fear of failure to dictate the pace of my life.

One of my first encounters with fear was in the form of a neighborhood bully, Joey. Those encounters were the kindling that fueled my social anxiety and sense of isolation. However, every journey has its turning points, and mine was no different. As I grew older and moved to Visalia at the age of 10, the confrontation with my fears evolved. I found a reservoir of bravery within me, refusing to let the shadows of the past define or defeat me.

The journey wasn’t easy, and the hurdles kept coming. The cliques and toxic environments I encountered in retail spaces tested my resolve, but they also taught me invaluable lessons about resilience and self-belief. Through introspection and the confrontation of those fears, I slowly evolved from a state of apprehension to one of fearlessness. This transformation didn’t occur overnight; it was a gradual process of learning, unlearning, and relearning.

A significant pillar of my journey was faith. While my roots are in Christianity, I believe that faith, regardless of its form, is like a talisman we keep in our back pocket. It’s something we can pull out and hold onto during our darkest moments. My battle with depression taught me this. Whenever the clouds of despair hovered, my faith was the beacon of light that guided me through.

The lessons learned along the way have been invaluable, shaping my beliefs and guiding my actions. From the streets of Kingsburg to the challenges in Visalia, from confronting bullies to overcoming social anxiety and depression, each experience was a stepping stone towards becoming fearless. It taught me that fear is not an insurmountable giant; rather, it’s a mountain that can be climbed, one step at a time.

The Importance of Intuition and Trusting the Process

Recognizing the power of intuition has been one of the greatest revelations of my life. We often become prisoners of our own thoughts, analyzing situations to the point of inaction. This is where intuition becomes our savior, nudging us towards action, even when everything isn't perfectly aligned.

My motto, Think Less, Feel More, is a child of this realization. It is a reminder to trust that gut feeling, that inherent knowing, instead of getting lost in overthinking. This principle came to light particularly during my writing process. There were moments of feeling stuck, the words seemingly caged behind a mental block. Instead of dwelling in frustration, I learned to let go, not to overthink, and to let my emotions and feelings guide the narrative. This approach wasn’t about abandoning logic; rather, it was about creating a harmonious dance between the mind and the heart, where each had its solo but the melody was sweeter when they played together.

Think Less, Feel More came from learning to trust and exercise intuition. At times, the myriad thoughts clouding our minds can obscure our true feelings and needs. When we quiet the mind, we can hear what our body is whispering – or sometimes shouting – at us. It might be saying, "I'm exhausted, I need to
