Overcoming I.N.S.E.C.U.R.I.T.Y. - LOVELY PK GATLIN

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS & DEDICATION

Life has a way of teaching us lessons, and lessons have a way of making us learn. The life-changing information in this short but sweet book is the result of consistent self-management and a constant quest for personal and professional development I have endured. I have a zeal to continue on the journey toward success in my own right.

I am grateful for every disappointment, embarrassment, broken heart, setback, and frustration. Thank you to those of you who were vulnerable enough to show me your weaknesses, strengths, fears, mistakes, and moments of triumph that helped me overcome my fears, adversity, and struggles in life.

To my Heavenly Father, I praise you for making a way out of nowhere, for being my shield and refuge, for your favor and forgiveness. And to myself, for believing in me when no one else did, for trusting me with your heart, health, and well-being, for the much-needed positive self-talk that got me through the toughest of times... I Love you.

This book is dedicated to my Dad,

    The Greatest example of

    Determination and Perseverance I know.

    INTRODUCTION

One of life’s lessons I have found to that never takes a back seat to circumstance is, we all have work to do. Regardless of our privileges or adversities in life, we all have a responsibility to learn how to take care of ourselves and interact with others. Most importantly, we all must grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and even financially to do the work set out for us to accomplish. All of which is a part of the human experience. If we take our eyes off the notion that we all have work to do, we will start to create cracks in the foundation of our existence. Those little cracks and overtime challenge our beliefs, our purpose in life, and how truly unique and special we really are.  Eventually, we may begin to wrestle with self-doubt, pity, guilt, shame, depression, or an overall sense of unworthiness.

All of which are feelings and emotions that are embedded in insecurity. A deeply rooted feeling of disappointment, inadequacy or uncertainty that can stem from any aspect of your life. It doesn’t matter how successful you may be, rich, beautiful or privileged you are. Insecurity can become an unwelcome reminder of our imperfections and inadequacies, regardless of our strengths, and if we don't learn how to overcome insecurity, it can rot us from the inside out. Most people recognize insecurity as an emotion, which it can be.

On the surface, we may react to insecurity like an emotional trigger; however, insecurity is more than our emotional responses to the triggered reminders of disappointment, inadequacy and uncertainty. The feeling of insecurity results from an adopted idea, the acceptance of a truth you choose to qualify your value or contribution to yourself and others. It also shapes who you think you are in this very moment as well as the possibilities of who you can become in the future.

It's a false realization that despite all the work you have done thus far, you may still have plenty more to do, and depending on your mindset, this realization can have you feeling pretty bad about yourself and the possible outcomes of your future. What you think of yourself today directly impacts what you believe you deserve, can achieve, and ultimately, what you will choose to settle or strive for in the future. Our past choices determine where you live, the car you drive, and who you are or have been in a relationship with. The decisions we make today can and will determine our future choices as they relate to newfound connections, the new friendships we will foster. They will determine the professional opportunities we will explore, and the goals we will strive to
