A Rising Collection of  Short Stories, is a compilation of five different experiences that individuals and families encounter on their walk of life. Each story gives you a glimpse into a moment of a particular event that changed the path of their life or relationships.

 

"Heaven Is Not for Sale," a patient is terminally ill and receiving experimental treatment that is keeping him alive. Mr. Harvey has finally come to terms with his fate and is ready to rest in peace. Is it final though?

 

In "A King-Sized Bed," sometimes living a perfect arrangement can be uncomfortable. Mag and Dan made a pact between each other; she takes care of the house without his input; he brings home the bacon without her input. After twenty years there are cracks in their pact, each is afraid to tell the other out of fear of breaking the pact. 

 

"Chinny's Dilemma: The Goose-Shaped Candle," in a different world where life as we know it takes us to an underground village, Tisal. Living day to day brings the same human experiences that tend to make or break the relationships we cherish. Chinny has a terrible encounter with a good friend, and they are not on speaking terms; until she has to make a special delivery to the same person for her boss and face deep hurts all over again. 

 

"The Wayward Seaweed Meets His Fellow Sea Mates," Seaweed is thrown into the sea from a large wave storm away from his family and friends.  He wonders if he will ever see them again until something special happens to change things around.

 

In "Akeredna and the Young Warriors: The Maturing Path," she is tasked to train young men and women into new warriors to protect the king.  The ceremonial day comes, and unexpected events puts them and the king in danger. 

 

In some ways we can relate to a moment in our life that changes for the short-term or the long-term. Either way we try to make the best of it or see the silver lining in it.

Heaven Is Not for Sale

Another day, another dollar.  Angelic Hospice Care, the name tends to have a ring to it. Sometimes I do not know if I can depend on angels to create miracles.  All I can remember is this one incredible ‘miracle’,  if you can call it that.  I guess it’s to be expected if you work at a place with ‘angelic’ in the name.  The kids and I were at the end of my severance pay. Child support wasn’t consistent enough.  So, I ended up working there. The first group of patients were under my care until their end; whether they passed on or were released.  Here we are two years later, Mr. Harvey is the only on left from my first group of patients.

Kelen, did you check on Mr. Harvey yet? Doctor Clint asked.

No, I was in the middle of caring for Ms. Trent.  She had a horrible reaction to the new medication.  Why? I asked.

I have a new medication for him, Doctor Clint answered. 

Why don’t we release him out of hospice care? It is obvious that the treatment is keeping him alive, Kelen said.

I brought it up to the board during our patient meetings and his release is not approved.  So, here we are, Doctor Clint said. 

I wonder why they won’t approve it. I will give him this new chemotherapy treatments, Kelen said.  She takes the medication from Doctor Clint and heads over to Mr. Harvey’s room.  It was around 2pm.
