    About the Authors

Maybe the journey isn't so much about becoming anything. Maybe it's about unbecoming everything that isn't really you, so you can be who you were meant to be in the first place.

    Veronica's Letter

We all know that a sister is defined not only by blood but also by bond. Since graduating from college, Chi and I have resurfaced and refreshed our friendship, creating a sisterhood like no other. The creation of Stepping Stones comes from just that, our sisterhood. At a point in time, we found ourselves calling each other at least once a week to talk about everything and anything. Our conversations lasted hours, covering love, friendships, triumphs, trials, and anything else life threw at us that week. However, no matter the story, we always made sure to keep our discussions deeply rooted in the Word of God, hence the birth of Stepping Stones.

Our lives are all stories waiting to be told; whatever outlet we use to tell these stories is our choice. Putting myself in the position to share hard times, good times, fears, and battles is not easy. However, one thing that I have learned from my life's journey is that my story is necessary.

I often wonder why God has put me in the position I am in today. My life has been nothing close to conventional, especially the last five years. I have received a master's degree, been diagnosed with breast cancer, beat breast cancer, experienced a unique love and hard losses, faced difficult battles with my family, experienced career highs and lows, and have traveled all over the world during it all. In fact, thinking back on the last several years brings me to tears sometimes—tears of melancholy but mostly tears of joy. Being able to say that God saved me from life-threatening situations is a blessing of its own. So it is with gratitude that I share the revelations God has given me through this journey He has me on.

Stepping Stones is a book of moments. Moments of fear, grief, sadness and also moments of triumph, joy, and revelations. This is a small token of how God has used His Word to help Chi and I navigate through tough decisions and situations. My prayer for all readers is that at least one of these twenty-one devotionals can carry you through a tough time or a glorious moment. Let these devotionals be a constant reminder of God's goodness. Understanding how God loves you, guides you, and plans for you is important; these are all things I have come to understand within the last couple of years.

I am just like you, a woman trying to navigate this life without making the wrong decisions. But as we cling to faith and not fear, we will learn more and more about the favor we have with God (Luke 1:30).

Thank you to my sister-friend Chidimma Nwankwo for being a constant reminder of God's love and support in my life. I couldn't have asked for a better co-author. Thank you to my beautiful mother. Those who know my mother know how special she is. She is truly the definition of faith and the greatest example of what a strong woman should be. I cannot thank God enough for blessing me with the mother I gratefully have. Also, thank you to my family and close friends for your support, love, and the confidence you have in me; all this truly means the world.

God, I thank You for continuously showing Your grace and mercy in my life, and I pray that as people read the words You have given me, they will be blessed like never before. Amen.

    Chi's Letter

Writing Stepping Stones has been a journey of its own, I think it's taken V and I about two years to tell this story in a way that was true and authentic to us. We've literally lived every single word that we've written. From great loves to great heartbreaks, to hard times, therapy sessions, grad school
