    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

I must first thank God, my Lord and Savior, the man of my life and my first husband. I love you, Lord. Thank you for choosing me to be your daughter. I will not be ashamed to declare what you have done for me. To you be the praise, the glory, and the honor.

To my husband, Frank—You have taught me by your actions to love people unselfishly as Christ does and to demonstrate God’s love to everyone. I thank God for your unselfish love and generous heart. I thank you for being a man of action and for always making things happen.

To my daughters, Gina, Sarah, and Diane Rogers—I love you so much. I have always tried to be a godly example for you. Without a doubt, you have all experienced God’s blessings and favor. We can leave our children many things, but I want to leave you with a faith that speaks volumes and a God who will always honor his Word. Remember your favorite Scripture passages, for God is alive and active, watching over his Word to perform them. Has he not come through? You keep me daily on my knees in prayer. I fight the spiritual battle each day for your salvation, because the promise is to me and to my children. To my other blended family, thank you for allowing me to share your life on many special occasions.

To Mellody Dominguez—You are one of the many mothers God has put in my life. Thank you for teaching me, loving me, and being there for me when I was a young teenager in the group home. I can never repay you for what you have done for me. I am so happy after all these years. I still consider you my mom and my friend. I love you so much.

To Dr. Velora Lily, my counselor in high school and another mother God has put in my life—You have blessed me and my daughters with your unselfish love and with your time and support over the years. I love you. Thank you for always being an awesome mother and teacher.

To Carmen Seguinot-Matos, my sister in Christ and my best friend—Thank you for your love, wisdom, and encouragement. Thank you for always showing me the love of Christ in how you live. I always leave your home wanting to be a better wife, mother, and friend, and wanting to have order in my home. I see Christ in how you love me and others. I love you, sister. Proverbs: 18:24 says, A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. You are that friend today and forever. God put us together as friends and sisters in Christ for a reason. Thank you for your godly wisdom.

To all my sisters in Christ at the Chicago Church of Christ—You know how much I love God and have encouraged me to pursue this book and have believed in me. I love you all and appreciate you. Special thanks to Kim Heredia for your love. You understood how the Enemy was making me struggle during the journey of writing this book. You know my faith and you realized that it was out of character for me to doubt God. You encouraged me greatly, and I thank you.

To my sisters in Christ at New Life Ministries—Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives and to attend the spiritual warfare class. I love you and appreciate you.

Special thanks to author Barbara Henry, a sister in Christ who took the time to read this manuscript and to proofread the material and who encouraged my heart to trust God.

To Brian Fox, consulting agent at CrossBooks—Thank you for being patient with me and for reassuring me I was in good hands with the CrossBooks team. Thank you to the editors, who understood the vision for this book and did an awesome job in editing.

    INTRODUCTION

T wo years ago on a Wednesday afternoon, I came home from work tired and needing to pray before attending my church’s midweek service that night. I thanked God for being who he is and for bringing me through many dark times. He has never ceased to amaze me. I was in awe of him and realized how true he is to his Word. I wanted to praise him and to lift up his holy name, giving thanks with all my heart. As I paused in prayer and fell silent, I heard the Lord say in my spirit, All a woman really needs is God.

Every situation had taken me to a deeper revelation and assurance of God’s character. He wasn’t saying that women don’t need other people, but when we have a relationship with God, nothing can separate us from him. To have this relationship, we must pursue him like no one else, get to know him by reading and studying his Word, seek him in every area of life, and pray without ceasing, knowing that our lives depend on it. When we have a deep, intimate relationship with God, we’re complete in him and there’s nothing we can’t overcome. God is our king, our redeemer, our healer, our provider, our first
