In biological terms, depression has been linked to decreased levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, which are neurotransmitters that help regulate mood. The decrease in these neurotransmitters may be due to genetic, hormonal, or environmental factors.
Psychological factors, such as stress, anxiety, trauma, or low self-esteem, can also contribute to the development of depression.
People who experience mental health problems, such as anxiety disorders or post-traumatic stress disorders, are also at higher risk of developing depression.
