    Chapter 1

    1394 AD/CE, Ming Dynasty

    24th Year of the reign of the HongWu Emperor, Founder of the Ming Dynasty

    On the outskirts of Fengdu City, Sichuan Province, Imperial China

    The Underworld

    We didn’t wait around to see what kinds of shadowy figures were chasing me in the hopes of attaining a meal.

    We simply fled and didn’t look back.

    Luckily, the Duke knew the way to Madam Meng’s Tea Shop, so he led the way.

    We passed through the main part of town, where vendors were selling all sorts of weird snacks. When I shuddered when I heard someone called out, Blood buns!

    In a little while, we arrived in front of a building whose sign read 10th Court - Zhuan Lun Wang, which meant Judge of the Rotating Wheel or Reincarnation.

    I knew we had arrived at the 10th Court and not courts 2 - 9, because no screams of torment could be heard. Both the 1st Court and the 10th Court were administrative courts only, not courts of punishment. The 10th Court was actually the place where souls were reincarnated, after having been justly punished, of course.

    The Duke pointed up the stairs. "You two go on
