His Forbidden Mate - Glory Tina

    CHAPTER 1 The chase

    Edward Ainsworth's POV

The first time I saw her, she was running, and I wanted to know why~

Soule, in the North of Wahala, was the city side of the north. This was where the Royal born would lodge whenever they came visiting. Robb Ainsworth, my father and king, had spent over seven hours deliberating on matters I could not care less about, while I tried to be the dutiful son he wants me to be. He brought me along to learn the way negotiation and agreements worked across the kingdom. He could have taken my older brother, Xavier Ainsworth along since he was next in line of succession, but he believes Xavier is not worthy and I am. The irony.

We arrived this morning and planned to leave once the negotiation ended. We came back to the Royal Lodge and while Robb returned to bed; I stayed awake, staring through the window of my room at the half-moon. Then I stared at the city at night, wondering what it would feel like to walk amongst the people. Perhaps if I wasn't crowned prince, I would have known what that felt like. Life has always been in the castle around my brother, whose withdrawal grew with every passing day, and my cousin Elliot Ainsworth, whom I knew better than to trust.

The only thing I have is my magic and though my father frowns on that, I do my best to learn because it is who I am.

I sat at the window for another hour, working on my chant and spell. I tried conjuring fire with my fingers, but ended up with mere smoke instead.

    This was pointless.

It was already dark, and the night owls were coming out to display their dominance on the territory. It was time to get some sleep, as tomorrow would be another long day. I almost tore my gaze from the window when I saw someone run past the fence of the hotel at a pace that I'd never seen before. Less than ten seconds after this person ran past, about a dozen other people ran and pursued after.

My curiosity gets the best of me because I now wanted to know what was this person's crime.

Perhaps I should mind my business and not get involved, but I had lacked the spontaneity of life for so long and this right here was my chance to have a look at what it was like.

I grabbed my hood and swung it over my shoulder. In the daytime, its design would tell the world I was royalty, the son of the king, but with the darkness that came with the night, no one would consider me royalty at first glance.

I hurry out of my room and I notice the guards positioned not so far from my door, so I took the back door and made my way out.

Once out, I fall in line with the chasers as fast as I can. I race into the woods and with the wind blowing over my face; I run towards the path where they ran through, hoping to meet up with the one being chased. My first shift is still a year or two away so I don't have any powers, which means I am vulnerable, but I have magic, I always have.

A few chants and I could transport from here to anywhere I wanted, but I am still yet to perfect my wordings. Mother always said to say the right chant or I could do actual damage.

After what felt like forever, I saw the men I had seen from my room on the chase, which told me I wasn't only on the right course, but I was also closer to getting answers.

But why am I out here chasing someone I don't know? Why does it feel so important? Why does it matter to me what happens to this person? Why do I care?

You care because it's an adventure and you get to help someone.

This person could be guilty of what he or she is being chased for.

    Even you don't believe that.

I'd cuss now at the raging voices in my head, but mother won't be so happy about it if she found out.

As I get closer to the men running, I cast a spell, which dispersed fog rapidly through the woods. The spell conceals the path they are to follow from their eyes.

The men slowed down, and the leader warned them to stand back with his hand held up and his men obeyed. I followed up by casting a divisive spell which conjured up three replicas of the path they had followed, causing more confusion in their midst. I keep my distance and watch from my stand far away.

I told you she's a witch! one man hissed with his hand balling into a hard fist.

What do we do now, boss? another asked the man who had led the chase, and the rest turned their heads to him like lost sheep.

We split and whoever finds her, kills her. he seethed and his frustration vibrated off his deep voice. Our assignment was to capture her, but she seems to be harder to kill than a cockroach. At his instructions, the six men split up, with at least one person following the four paths.

Life wasn't rose outside the Palace. Perhaps this was my cue to leave, to run back to the Royal lodge and remain in my father's protection until I'm old and strong enough to face the world. However, a girl was on the run for her life and she would die if I do nothing. She didn't know me yet, but she needed my help.

I knew the path the girl ran through and only one man followed it as the rest went through the divisive path that led nowhere. I followed him, running as fast as my legs could take me while praying this girl being chased found safety as fast as possible.

After another long minute of chasing, the man slows down and sniffed the air, Princess I am coming for you, he snared, I've received permission to kill you, but I'd like to taste you before spilling your young blood.

I almost threw up in my mouth.

My life wasn't the best, but I didn't grow up with survival on my mind. At least I wasn't being chased around and threatened with death and tasting human blood. Life was cruel outside the Palace and the comfort of royalty and I wonder if this is why father came to the north, to put up laws that will protect the weak people and put a stop to this once and for all.

Princess, your magic may have tempered with our powers, but I can feel your fear. It's a natural wolf's instinct. No magic can change that. he called out.

I drew closer and spotted the shadow of someone at the back of the tree with her hand covering her nose and mouth to stop any rough breathing, whimpers or sound from slipping out.

The sight of her captivated me, even as I stand far off. I do not move. She looked a few summers younger than me. She had curly black hair which looked rough and had a few dry leaves hanging on them, probably from falling on her face a few times. Her eyes were a silver-grey, which I wouldn't be able to tell if they weren't so outstanding despite the night.

The man chasing her interrupted my thoughts, roaring, I think your skin would feel good underneath mine. I like to hear how you scream when you're unable to stop your body from responding to my cock shoved far up your sweet cunt. he snarled and he meant it.

    CHAPTER 2 The Chase II

I never liked the idea of fighting, that's why I never trained, but the vile words this man uttered from his pile hole made my blood boil and made me regret never learning how to fight. Because right now, I wanted to greet his face with my fist and not in a friendly way.

Her head lifted, and her eyes caught sight of me staring at her. Her breath hitched and her eyes widen as fear registered in them. I held up my hands in surrender, trying to make her understand I wasn't with them. Then I place my finger to my mouth, telling her to remain silent. She nodded, still panting.

The man who stood on the other side of the woods glanced around and then made his way towards the side of the woods where the girl stood while looking around for her.

I knew I couldn't stay hidden anymore. The man intended to harm her because she was weaker and I couldn't stay still.

Stepping out would mean throwing myself out in the line. That could get me hurt, and who knows what else would happen? The Royal family already lost the queen, my mother, less than a year ago and we are still healing. Doing this might put me on the line as well.

I can't take him on unless I have my magic, which keeps fading with every passing moment. I have to put myself first because this doesn't look great, yet I can't think. I don't want to put myself first. The queen told me while she yet lived that life was fleeting and what we do with it is what's important.

    I choose to do something.

I stumbled out from behind the trees and the man paused on his step and gave me a narrowed look. Who are you?

I'm... n..no one. I stuttered, realising how stupid it was to reveal myself without a proper plan.

You're not no one. You move and look like someone from a noble family. He said, his teeth gritting and his eyes narrowing with malicious intent.

My heart plummeted with fear and I took a step back as he approached me, Tell me, boy, what's a child like you doing in a dangerous wood like this? he sneered.

From the left corner of the woods, I saw the girl who was being chased and she stared at me with utter confusion, but still didn't come out of her hiding place. Smart girl.

Since I have no plan, I intend to lure him away and then cast a spell that would put an end to this once and for all. I have to be brave and stay one thought ahead of him.

I tucked my hands behind me, trying to spark up fog or smoke, but my magic seemed weaker than I've ever experienced. It made no sense why it was so now, but it meant I was more vulnerable than I'd ever been in my life.

The man took a long stride forward and I back away only for my leg to get caught by a visible root. I fell off my feet, landing hard on the ground covered with dry grass. My body ached and my eyes blurred up for having slammed my head to the ground when I fell.

The smoke I tried to create with my hand faded away, but not before the man notice them and his eyes darken with anger.

Magic! he sneered, his hatred for people like me showing as he stormed towards me.

I tried scrambling to my feet, but he caught me by my legs and dragged me closer.

You've got magic, little boy? You've been using it on us for how long? You're the reason that bitch escaped! because you kept interrupting.

He's smart, I'll give him that.

I struggled to get off his hold, but failed miserably. My head turned to the side of the wood where the girl stood and our eyes met. She looked confused still, but more than anything, apologetic. I wanted her to run and save herself. I wouldn't escape this fate. This might be where I die and I'd gladly take it. I'd die happy knowing I stood up and fought for someone. I'll move to the life beyond, knowing my mother would be proud of me when she sees me.

The man noticed the direction of my gaze and his head darted there and saw the girl unmoved. He let go of my leg, seeing his prime target. He kicked me in the stomach and I groaned and twisted on the ground, writing in pain.

Come here, doll. Come here or I will kill him. he threatened, stretching out his hand.

No, don't. Run! I yelled to her despite my pain.

He kicked me in the face, bruising my mouth. I twisted on the ground, coughing and spitting out blood.

If you don't come, he will suffer. Is that the person you are? Letting others suffer for your sake?

She shook her head and approached him, having no other choice. I couldn't object this time. My mouth felt numb from the kick.

My heart clenched in pain, knowing the fate that awaited her with this monster of a man.

I lifted my hands and stare at them, but my magic was gone, and it now felt like I never had it. My head hoisted to the side, and I saw a fallen branch and I stretched my hand to grab it.

The girl now came to stand close to the man, and he grabbed a fist full of her hair, making her whimper out in pain.

You will come with me, doll. I can't wait to take these filthy clothes off your body. he rubbed his hand over her shoulder, down her chest.

Aye! Bastard! I called out to the man. He turned around, and I swung the heavy branch as fast as I can to his head. It smacked against his temple with a loud impact and the next second, the man fell to his knees and then to the ground, unconscious.

The girl drew a shaky breath at what had just happened and her grey eyes widened as she stared at the unconscious man and then at me.

I panicked at what I had just done. I just killed a man. I've never been violent before, I've hurt no one before and now I've taken a life.

I threw the branch on the ground, my hands becoming sweaty and my whole body shivering uncontrollably.

He may not be dead, I said, already accused and tortured at the hands of the voices in my head.

She nodded, but said nothing else. Werewolves don't die that quick, I added, hoping to make myself feel less guilty about what I've done.

But what did I do? I saved a girl. She would have suffered a great deal of pain if this man had taken her with him. I am not the bad guy. In fact, I'm the opposite of that and she knows it too.

Her eyes darted to the branch I tossed to the ground a while ago, and she bent and picked it up. I watched, confused as to what she wanted to do.

She tightened her grip on the branch and raised it to slam it against his head. She wanted him dead; she wanted to finish the job; she was just like me.

She couldn't finish the job as she hoped because we heard instinct noises and sounds of many footsteps approaching, along with the barking of dogs. She immediately dropped the log and stepped back.

Go, run away. If they see you, you'll be in trouble, I told her, ready to face whatever comes. I wanted to know her more, or even get her name, but that would no longer happen tonight.

I picked up the branch she just dropped and tightened my hands around it. The girl smiled at me and it was the most beautiful sight I've ever seen. She disappeared into the woods the next second and I awaited what might likely be my death.

My heartbeat raced with every second I waited to be found, but when I finally did, I didn't swing to kill anyone because they were the King's guard and they came searching for me. I let go of the branch and relief washed over my face, knowing this was the end.

I turned around to where the girl had run through, wondering if I'd ever see her again.

CHAPTER 3 Trouble In The dark

    Five years later

Dyan and I stepped into Dive, the official beer house of the south. It’s been a long-ass journey from the La Ville Royale, all the way to Kame the capital city of the South. It would have been longer if I didn’t leave with my best friend, Dyan Ortega.

I have an assignment, a message to deliver to the Lord of the South, and I will do that tomorrow. This was one of the times I could leave the Palace on my own, the king trusts that since I’m much older, I will be safer now.

The incident that happened when he took me to Soule of the north plagued him. Though I got the blame for being out, the king looked more worried than I’d ever seen. I had gotten hurt, and that scared him more than anything. Perhaps he couldn't imagine losing his only 'good son'.

When the king asked me what happened, I lied. I told him I went out for a walk only to end up being chased by evil men. The same night, father sent guards out, and the guards captured four of the rest five men chasing the girl. One escaped and my only hope was for the girl to be safe. Yes, I lied, but I didn’t feel remorseful about it.

We returned to the Capital, but the king never took me anywhere outside the capital, for fear or preservation, I never found out.

Still, I never stopped thinking about her. The girl I saw at Soule.

She kept me up, and I always wondered where she was and how she was doing or if she had a better life now.  They were evil days and in the last five years, the only thing that kept me going was the thought of the girl I might never see again.

A lot has changed with me as well. I was now better with my magic, spells and chants even without my mother’s guide and my first shift happened on my seventeenth birthday. That made me a werewolf, a witch and the crowned Prince of Wahala kingdom.

After my encounter with the mysterious girl, I realised my magic no matter how strong could fail me and so I learnt how to fight and defend myself in the face of opposition. Father felt happy that I took an interest in learning how to fight. He believed Layla, the late queen, would have loved it too. Knowing her sons could defend themselves anywhere they found themselves would make her happy.

I missed her. She was my friend, my partner in crime, and my mother. If she was alive, she would have given me answers to my unending questions about magic, royalty and also being a werewolf. I’ve visited her graveyard at the pathway just to speak to her as often as I could since her death, and I hope to find solace in her absence and move on.

You came to take your mind off things, but you’re doing the opposite of that, Eddie! Dyan said, after noticing my silence for almost thirty minutes.

I broke out of my thought and my attention moved to him, and I notice a cup of beer before him.

Forgive me, I chuckled and reached for his cup, but he smacked my hand away and I winced. Aye!

He held a finger up. No, aye, make your order. This is mine.

I rolled my eyes and reached for his cup. Ignoring his protest, I pour the burning liquid down my throat, swallowing quickly.

I place the empty cup down before him and he scowled at me.

You know you’re just a bully like your brother, right?

That didn’t stop you from having a crush on him, though. I shot back.

He scoffed and glared at me, but said nothing in response, probably having no comeback or avoiding saying anything that would tick me off. I hardly ever give in to my petty side, but when I do, I don’t look back.

Aye! I called to the older man at the counter serving the beer and his attention moved to me, Two cups please.

The man nodded and shortly after; he placed two medium cups of beer before us and takes the empty cup away.

Dyan wrapped his hand around his cup but remain silent and I realised I had hurt him with my retort earlier.

    You’re mad at me.

Geez, what gave that away? he asked with a fake tone of surprise.

I rolled my eyes. You did. I’m sorry for what I said.

I don’t have a crush on your brother. he clarifies, I never did, but I think he’s not as bad as he seems.

I know. That’s just me getting petty for being called a bully.

You’re a bully. he insisted, but this time unlike the first, I didn’t take offence at it.

Cheers then, to being friends with the bully.

He picked up the cup before him and nudged it against mine before taking it to his lips. I gulped mine down my throat, but he stopped halfway and dropped it on the counter.

    What now? I whined.

In case you didn’t notice, not everything is about you, Prince Edward, he answered. And I’m not a lover of beer.

Fair enough, I nodded and asked for another round for myself alone. I was on my third round when I saw a group of men drag out someone who struggle to set themselves free from them. I watched with curiosity, wondering what could have caused such manhandling.

Let it go! Dyan hissed, bringing my attention back to him, and I saw a scowl on his face.

What? I asked, acting clueless despite knowing what he meant.

He rolled his eyes. Your need to get in trouble, let it go. It is none of your business.

I grin and empty the beer down my throat and rose to my feet. I can't help it.

I would have let it slide if Dyan had said nothing, but now that he had, I couldn't. He should know by now that I do the opposite of whatever he tells me to do.

I am a lover of trouble. It’s in the Ainsworth’s blood, but unlike my brother, no one would believe I can hurt a fly unless, of course, they catch me in the act.

Over the years, I have drawn trouble to myself and dragged Dyan along with me. He never complained. We both knew how to defend ourselves against anyone and anything. I had magic, and the strongest bloodline in the kingdom, but Dyan had faced me while we trained years ago, and he was stronger. The only upper hand I had was magic. He called it cheating. I called it being a better player.

You stay here. I’ll go check it out. I patted his shoulder before walking away, heading toward the door this person was dragged through. If I know Dyan well, and I do, he will come after me. The thought barely settled in my head when he fell in line with me.

I do not know why we are still friends. he hissed, sounding more frustrated than ever.

I smirked. We are still friends because we watch each other’s back.

We stepped out into the chilly night and my eyes darted around, trying to find where these people could have gone.

I felt a switch in my magic and I realised something was wrong. My magic hasn’t fluctuated in years and this didn’t look good.

The noise is coming from that way, Dyan said, yanking me out of my thought. He pointed in a direction not too far away but hidden because of the night.

He led the way, and I followed and soon we came to stand beside the large tree and
