The Perfect Adventure. Without Bobby

Carly stomped her foot and glared at her brother, Bobby. You went on an adventure without me? she asked.

Umm…yes? Bobby said. He tried to think of something else to say, but then he decided to be quiet, since he knew anything else he said would just make Carly mad. Or, madder.

Carly paced around the room, refusing to even look at Bobby. I found the magic cave, she thought. I figured out how it works. I invited Bobby to come along. And now he goes without me? It’s not fair!

Carly whirled around. That’s not fair! she said aloud.

But you went without me, Bobby replied, frowning.

But it’s my cave! Carly shouted. You wouldn’t even know about it if I hadn’t told you!

So I’m just supposed to sit around? Bobby said, his voice rising as well. You were at Amy’s!

You should have waited for me to get back! Carly exclaimed.

Bobby stood up from where he was sitting on the bed. It’s a cave, Carly. You don’t own it. I can use it if I want!

Bobby stormed across the room and threw open Carly’s bedroom door. Carly lost the last pieces of her temper and flung a stuffed animal at his back.

Fine! That’s just fine! If you can use the cave without me, then I’ll just use it without you. I’ll use it more! I’ll have bigger and better adventures and you’ll wish you were with me - but you won’t be, because I’ll have more fun by myself!

Bobby slammed the door to his bedroom. Carly flounced down the hallway with angry tears in her eyes.

I’ll just go have the perfect adventure right now, Carly thought. She ran down the stairs, out the back door, and across the yard.

Carly was going so fast, she forgot to watch where she was going. As she clambered down the rocks to the beach, she missed the last rock and fell to the sand below.

Are you all right, Carly? she heard a voice ask.

Carly hurriedly wiped her eyes. Then she stood up and brushed the sand from her pants as she turned around.

I’m fine, Mr. Harris, Carly replied. She tried to smile as she looked up into the face of her neighbor. I was just in a hurry.

Be careful on those rocks, Mr. Harris said. You could get hurt.
