About this ebook

“And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise”. (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

God placed enormous responsibility to the nation of Israel and today’s believers to teach the Word of God consistently to their children. Regrettably some parents have struggled to fulfil this mandate. This probably explain the waywardness of some children as they graduate to young adults in a supposed Christian environment.

This book is an attempt to fill that gap and is therefore recommended for ages between eight and sixteen years and probably beyond due to its varied content.

    Old Testament

    D:\internet pictures\Created plants.jpg

    Chapter 1

    God creates heaven and earth

God created Heaven and Earth and everything in it in six days. On the first day, God said: Let there be light! And so from then on, there was day and night.

On the second day, God created the Earth and the sky.

On the third day, God created the seas and the land, and the water on the land in rivers and lakes. The plants and trees which we see today were also created on the third day.

And God said, Let the earth put forth vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, upon the earth. And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.

    (Genesis 1:11-13)

And out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

    (Genesis 2:9)

On the fourth day, God created the stars and the sun.

The next day, He put fish in the seas and birds in the air, and the day after that He populated the land with every kind of animal.

His work was almost done, and He was very pleased.

    3. What did God create on the second day?

    4. On which day did God cause the Earth to bring forth vegetation?

    5. What other things were created on this day?

    6. What came into existence on the fourth day?

    7. When did the fish, birds and animals appear on Earth?

    9. What other kinds of trees are mentioned?

    10. Give the name of the tree which gave everlasting life to mankind.

    ACTIVITIES

    1. Read this story in the Bible: Genesis Chapter 1, verses 1 to 25.

    Chapter 2

Adam in God’s garden of Eden, in the east

God created the first man on the sixth day. He formed him out of the dust of the ground, then he breathed the breath of life into his nostrils and he became a living soul. God gave the man the name Adam. So Adam was made up of the following:

    • The body, which was made of dust from the ground.

    • The spirit, which was breathed into him by God.

    • The soul, which made him a living being.

God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

    (Genesis 1:26)

After creating all things, God brought all the living creatures to Adam to see what he would name them, and whatever the man called every creature, that was its name. All the animals were created male and female. As for Adam, God saw that he did not have a female companion.

Then the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.

    (Genesis 2:18 )

So God caused Adam to go into a deep sleep and took one of his ribs, made it into a woman and brought her to Adam. Adam was very happy when he saw the woman.

Then the man said, This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

    (Genesis 2:23)

During their stay in the garden, Eve was deceived by the serpent, and she was tempted into eating the forbidden fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. She shared the fruit with Adam.

God was angered by what Adam and Eve had done, so He punished them. He banished them from the Garden of Eden and they were condemned to a life of hardship and sin, and would die instead of having eternal life. They could no longer live forever like God, their Father.

    2. Where did this person live?

    3. What three parts make up a person?

    4. God gave humans dominion over the fish, birds, animals and everything else on Earth. What does the word dominion mean?

    5. Why did God create a companion for Adam?

    CHAPTER 3

Noah and his sons build an ark

And God blessed them, and God said to them: Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it.

    (Genesis 1:28)

God blessed Adam and Eve with many children, including sons called Cain, Abel and Seth. As time went on their children and grandchildren began to multiply on Earth just as God had commanded them.

As the numbers of people increased, so their disobedience against God also increased. God was so angry that he resolved to destroy all the living things on Earth. But there was a man named Noah, who was a righteous man. Because of Noah’s obedience, God revealed to him his decision to destroy the Earth by floods. However, he also told Noah how he could save himself and his family.

Make yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch.

    (Genesis 6:14)

Noah and his sons started to build the ark, a kind of boat, exactly as God had instructed. Those who saw him at work thought he was mad because there was no sign that floods would come anytime soon.

After Noah had finished building it, God commanded Noah to go inside with his wife, his three sons and their wives. He also took with him into the ark one
