About this ebook

Domestic violence is defined by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence as the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, or other abusive behavior that is used to overpower and control another person. Domestic violence takes on many forms, both visible and hidden. And according to studies, it affects one person every twenty seconds. Domestic violence is not a new problem in America but is one that has sadly existed for decades. And while the majority of victims are female, domestic violence knows no income bracket, demographic, age, race, or religion; domestic violence occurs in every facet of society. Despite the many groups working to help victims of domestic abuse, the problems persist.

Domestic violence is more commonly seen in situations where someone (the abuser) believes that behaviors such as physical, verbal, emotional, religious, sexual, or economical abuse is acceptable and justifiable. Adding to the perceived justification of abuse is the victims inability to see the denigrating acts as abuse. Then when they do identify the problem, they feel trapped by their circumstancesbe it due to fear, lack of funds, poor physical condition, or various psychological issuesand are unable to leave the situation.

More disturbing than the obvious problems of domestic abuse is that there have been connections made between domestic violencespecifically sexual abuse in childrenand satanic influences/forces. This type of abuse is referred to as satanic ritual abuse (SRA). The abuses suffered due to satanic influences are often more severe forms of physical and sexual abuse, especially in the form of child pornography, prostitution, and being used for snuff films. These abuse victims are often so brainwashed that they dont dare speak out. And while there are those who would like to ignore the connections between abuse and satanic forces, the fact remains that abuse is not something promoted in scripture! The believer is told to care for the helpless and to lift up the fallen, not knock them down and beat them up.

In homes where children are abused, they often grow up to become adults who struggle with relationships, authority figures, and problem-solving. Worse, abused children often become adult abusers, thus perpetuating the problem. Studies have also found that children who see their mother abused are more likely to develop PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). Also interesting is that there is now a correlation between childhood domestic violence and adult health conditions like arthritis, ischemic heart disease (IHD), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), liver disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic pain, pelvic pain, ulcers, and migraines. Psychological challenges include depression, severe anxiety panic attacks, and a feeling of worthlessness.

As you read Ivys story, you will discover that she could easily be the poster child for domestic violence. She spent fifteen years living in a situation where mental, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse were part of her daily life. She then entered a marriage that ultimately, albeit differently, was more of the same.

But Ivys story does not end as it began. She heard about a Savior who loved her unconditionally. And while initially Ivy did not understand her Saviors love, in time, she learned the meaning of real love and acceptance. As you read her story, you will see how she looked and worked to eventually overcome the challenges brought on by domestic abuse.

If you have been abused or know someone who is or has been in an abusive situation, then Ivys story can help. It will provide hope and help as you see that while domestic abuse is horrific, there is one who can overcome the hold abuse has on a persons life.

Dont let abuse keep you or a loved one from enjoying life. Take the step now to begin the first day of the rest of your life.

Ivy Christian

Ivy Christian is a wife, mother, and author. But more importantly, she is a Christ-follower and a survivor. Born in an era where children were to be seen and never heard, Ivy learned early on that she was viewed as unlovable and unwanted, except as a punching bag and a scapegoat for all things wrong real or imagined in her family. Ivys life did not begin in an environment where one might encounter abuse. Although born to an unwed, teenage mother, the first three years of her life were filled with love and laughter, patent leather shoes and frilly dresses, giggles with grandpa, time with grandma, carefree walks in the neighborhood and a feeling of joy. However, when Ivy was but three years old, life as she knew it ended. Ivys young mother decided that being saddled with a child was not for her. She brought Ivy to her brothers home where she instantly became the middle child of five. But having siblings is not all that changed. Instead of being loved and cosseted, Ivy became the brunt of cruel comments, abused in every way and made to feel inferior and inept. This abuse affected every aspect of her life not just throughout childhood but into adulthood. The emotional scars caused her to question her value, her intelligence, and her abilities. Ivys family moved multiple times throughout her life. For many people the frequent moves would have had an adverse effect, but those many moves taught her to adapt. This skill would become beneficial as an adult where moves, new job situations, and eventually travel outside the U.S. would occur. Yet, Ivy was never truly alone. In the midst of chaos, she found solace in the church services she could attend. Through singing hymns, she discovered One who loved her for who she was a bitter and broken person who believed she was unlovable and unworthy. At church, she found people who met her where she was and who began to teach her that she had value and was lovable. Yet, it was not until her adult years that she truly accepted the love of God and all that it encompassed. This love enabled her to forgive those who had caused her so much pain. Ivy is a survivor. Her journey through life has not be an easy one. Rather, she has faced being falsely accused, being taken advantage of in business transactions, and encountered significant struggles with both professional and personal relationships. But, despite the hardships there were times of joy and laughter, where others reached out to Ivy and showed her what real love and kindness meant. And, in time, Ivy learned the most powerful message of all the power of forgiveness. For, in learning to forgive those who had hurt her, she learned how to let go of the bitterness and began to heal. Today, Ivy shares the story of journey of healing. She has used her hardships and pains to help others who have been abused to heal. Like Joseph of the Old Testament, Ivy can say, You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. (Gen. 50:20 NLT)

Shielded by God’S Power - Ivy Christian

    In the Beginning

Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 1:2 Now the earth was chaos and waste, darkness was on the surface of the deep, and the Ruach Elohim (Spirit of God) was hovering upon the surface of the water. Then God said, Let there be light! and there was light. God saw that the light was good. So God distinguished the light from the darkness. God called the light day and the darkness He called night. So there was evening and there was morning—one day.

Then God said, Let there be an expanse in the midst of the water! Let it be for separating water from water. So God made the expanse and it separated the water that was below the expanse from the water that was over the expanse. And it happened so. God called the expanse sky. So there was evening and there was morning—a second day. Then God said, Let the water below the sky be gathered to one place. Let the dry ground appear. And it happened so. God called the dry ground land, and the collection of the water He called sea. And God saw it was good.

Then God said, "Let the land sprout grass, green plants yielding seed, fruit trees making fruit, each according to its species. And God saw it was good. So there was evening and there was morning—a third day.

Then God said, Let lights in the expanse of the sky be for separating the day from the night. They will be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. They will be for lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the land. And it happened so. Then God made the two great lights—the greater light for dominion over the day, and the lesser light as well as the stars for dominion over the night. God set them in the expanse of the sky to shine on the land and to have dominion over the day and over the night and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So there was evening and there was morning—a fourth day. Then God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures! Let flying creatures fly above the land across the expanse of the sky. Then God created the large sea creatures and every living creature that crawls, with which the water swarms, according to their species, as well as every winged flying creature, according to their specie. And God saw that it was good. Then God blessed them by saying, Be fruitful and multiply and fill the water in the seas. Let the flying creatures multiply on the land. So there was evening and there was morning—a fifth day.

Then God said, Let the land bring forth living creatures according to their species—livestock, crawling creatures and wild animals according to their species. And it happened so. God made the God made the wild animal according to their species, livestock according to their species, and everything that crawls on the ground, each according to its species. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness! Let them rule over the fish of the sea, over the flying creatures of the sky, over the livestock, over the whole earth, and over every crawling creature that crawls on the land. God created humankind in His image in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them God blessed them and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, fill the land, and conquer it, Rule over the fish of the sea, the flying creatures of the sky, and over every animal that crawls on the land.

Then God said, I have just given you every green plant yielding seed that s on the surface of the whole land, and every tree, which has the fruit of a tree yielding seed. They are to be food for you. Also for every wild animal, every flying creature of the sky and every creature that crawls on land which has life, every green plant is to be food. And it happened so. So God saw everything that He made, and behold it was very good.

So there was evening and there was morning—sixth day.

So the heavens and the earth were completed along with their entire array—on the seventh day—His work that He made, and He ceased—on the seventh day—from all His work He made. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, for on it He ceased from all His work that God created for the purpose of preparing.

These are the genealogical records of the heaven and the earth when they were created, at the time when ADONAI Elohim (The Lord God) made land and sky. Now no shrub of the field was in the land yet, and no green plants of the field had sprouted yet. For ADONAI Elohim had not caused it to rain upon the land, and there was no one to work the ground. But a mist came up from the land and watered the whole surface of the ground.

Then ADONAI Elohim formed the man out of the dust from the ground and He breathed into his nostrils a breath of life—so the man became a living being. Then ADONAI Elohim planted a garden Eden in the east, and there He put the man whom He had formed. Then ADONAI Elohim caused to sprout from the ground every tree that was desirable to look at and good for food.

Now the Tree of Life was in the middle of the garden, and also the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden. From there it divided and became four riverheads. The name of the first is Pishon, the one that winds around the whole land of the Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good—bdellium and lapis lazuli stones are also there. The name of the second river is Gihom—it winds around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Tigris—it runs east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. Then ADONAI Elohim took the man and gave him rest in the Garden of Eden in order to cultivate and watch over it. Then ADONAI Elohim commanded the man saying, "From all the tress of the garden you are most welcome to eat. But of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil you must not eat. For when you eat from it, you most assuredly will die!

Then ADONAI Elohim said, It is not good for the man to be alone. Let Me make a well-matched helper for him. ADONAI Elohim had formed from the ground every animal of the field and every flying creature of the sky, so He brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called them—each living creature—that was its name. So the man gave names to all of the livestock, and to the flying creatures of the sky, and to all the animals of the field; but for the man He did not find a well-matched helper for him. Adonai Elohim caused a deep sleep to fall on the man and he slept; and He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. ADONAI Elohim built the rib, which He had taken from the man, into a woman. Then He brought her to the man. Then the man said, This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh from my flesh. This one is called woman, for from man was taken this one."

This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife; and they become one flesh.

Now both of them were naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed.

But the serpent was shrewder than any animal of the field that Adonai Elohim made. So it said to the woman, Did God really say, You must not eat from all the trees of the garden?

The woman said to the serpent, Of the fruit of the trees, we may eat. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God said, ‘You must not eat of it and you must not touch it, or you will die.

The serpent said to the woman, You most assuredly won’t die! For God knows that when you eat of it, your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.

Now the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a thing of lust for the eyes, and that the tree was desirable for imparting wisdom. So she took of its fruit and she ate. She also gave to her husband who was with her and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they knew and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made for themselves loin-coverings. And they heard the sound of ADONAI Elohim going to and for in the garden in the wind of the day. So the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of ADONAI Elohim in the midst of the Tree of the garden.

Then ADONAI Elohim called to the man and He said to him, Where are you?

Then he said, Your sound—I heard it in the garden and I was afraid. Because I am naked, I hid myself.

Then He said, Who told you that you are naked? Have you eaten from the Tree from which I commanded you not to eat?

Then the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me—she gave me of the Tree, and I ate.

ADONAI Elohim said to the woman, What did you do?

The woman said, The serpent deceived me and I ate

ADONAI Elohim said to the serpent, "Because you did this, Cursed are you above all the livestock and above every animal of the field. On your belly will you go, and dust will you eat all the days of your life. I will put animosity between you and the woman—between your seed and her seed. He will crush your head, and you will crush his heel.

To the woman He said, I will greatly increase your pain from conception to labor. In pain will you give birth to children. Your desire will be toward your husband, yet he must rule over you.

Then to the man He said, Because you listened to your wife’s voice and ate of the tree which I commanded you, saying, ‘You must not eat of it’: Cursed is the ground because of you—with pain will you eat of it all the days of your life. Thorns and thistles will sprout for you. You will eat the plants of the field, By the sweat of your brow will you eat food, until you return to the ground, since from it were you taken. For you are dust, and to dust will you return.

Now Adam named his wife Eve because she was the mother of all the living ADONAI Elohim made Adam and his wife tunics of skin and He clothed them. Then ADONAI Elohim said, Behold, the man has become like one of US, knowing good and evil. So now, in case he stretches out his hand and takes also from the Tree of Life and eats and lives forever, ADONAI Elohim sent him away from the Garden of Eden, to work the ground which he had been taken. And He expelled the man; and at the east of the Garden of Eden He had cherubim dwell, along with the whirling sword of flame to guard the way to the Tree of Life.

Now the man had relations with Eve his wife and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, I produced a man with ADONAI (The LORD). Then she gave birth again, to his brother Abel. Abel became shepherd of flocks while Cain became a worker of the ground. So it happened after some time that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to ADONAI, while Abel—he also brought an offering of the firstborn of his flock and their fat potions. Now ADONAI looked favorably upon Abel and his offering, but upon Cain and his offering He did not look favorably. Cain became very angry, and his countenance fell.

Then ADONAI said to Cain, Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well it will lift. But if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the doorway. Its desire is for you, but you must master it.

Cain spoke to Abel his brother. While they were in the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then ADONAI said to Cain, Where is Abel, your brother?

I don’t know, he said, Am I my brother’s keeper?

Then He said, What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying out to Me from the ground. So now, cursed are you from the ground which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. As often as you work the ground, it will not yield its crops to you again. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.

Cain said to ADONAI, My iniquity too great to bear! Since You expelled me today from the face of the ground and I must be hidden from Your presence, then I will be a restless wandered on the earth—anyone who finds me will kill me!

But ADONAI said to him, In that case, anyone who kills Cain is to be avenged seven times over.

So ADONAI put a mark on Cain, so that anyone who found him would not strike him down. Then Cain left ADONAI presence and dwelled in the Land of Wandering. Genesis 1:1–4:16

    CHAPTER 1

Do You Know Where You Were When God Created the Earth?

As we go forth reading the events in the Old Testament, remember these events happened from 1500 BC to 435 BC (before Christ came to the earth). That is a total of one thousand years’ span of time being covered by the Old Testament (Hebrew scriptures). Moses wrote the first five books of the Old Testament called the Pentateuch, and the other writers were the prophets, historians, poets, and others.

Genesis 1:1 is God’s disclosure through Moses, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This is the most important verse for each one of us to believe. If we do not believe verse 1, we will not believe the rest of the Bible.

In our journey through God’s creation of Heaven and the universe, we will find "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This statement has mystified, divided, and muddled the minds of humans on this earth for centuries. To create means to bend, fashion, twist, produce, make, and generate; however, God did it by speaking angels, animals, and lastly, man into existence.

There are humans and theistic evolutionists born thousands and thousands of years after the creation of the earth, and they want you to believe they know how the earth evolved. The traditions passed down through the centuries of how the earth arrived are by people who have been on earth less than SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS.

As an example, Dr. Greene writes of creation: Integration of matter and affiliated debauchery of motion during which the matter passes from an unlimited, disjointed, consistency to a fixed, intelligible heterogeneity, and during which the retained motion undergoes a parallel transformation. Do you understand what the evolutionist discovered?

Why don’t we take a tour through God’s creation of Heaven and the creation of angels, archangels, the universe (earth), and man and woman?

Unfortunately, there is hatred toward the teaching of the Holy Bible in our so-called modern society. We, the people, don’t want to offend anyone, except God. The book of Job in the Old Testament is the oldest book known to mankind and was written around sixth century BC. God called Moses to write about Job.

Job lived in the land of Uz or somewhere around Southern Edom or even as far away as Mesopotamia. Most amazing, the Aramaic and Hebrew manuscripts of Job were found among the 981 Dead Sea Scrolls discovered between 1946 and 1956 in the Qumran Caves in the West Bank, Jerusalem—the manuscripts of the book of Job, who was a real man and had a wife, sons, and daughters, and he questioned God, Why do the righteous suffer?

Archaeologists are another avenue to find out if there is credibility in the Bible. They have excavated items proven authentic from biblical days. However, the news media does not give publicity to those digs. Many of the artifacts ended up in England’s museums, where many Americans never heard of them. Some authors have gone to England to study and write books for our information. There are thousands of documented items that verify the Bible’s authenticity.

Then there is always the fulfillment of biblical prophecy, such as it was predicted in the Bible that Jesus would drink vinegar while hanging on the cross. Hundreds and hundreds of years later, when Jesus had been beaten until you could count his bones, his beard pulled out, and he had to carry his own cross through town with onlookers shouting at him. After suffering great shame, openly from the cross, Jesus Christ said, I thirst. A man not only did offer Jesus Christ vinegar to drink, but he was also one of the Roman’s hangmen who gave Jesus the vinegar drink.

The Bible is not written to prove that God created the earth or to explain geology or how the heavens and earth were created scientifically. God created the universe for his own glory.

You might have heard of the man who bet a preacher that he could create a human just like God. The pastor asked the man to prove it. The man leaned over, picked a handful of dirt, and began molding it. God called from heaven, No, no, that’s my own creation. Create your own dirt.

How would you answer ADONAI if he asked you this from a whirlwind: "Who is this, who darkens counsel with words without knowledge? I will question you, and you will inform me: where were you when I laid the foundations of earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who set its dimensions—if you know—or who stretched a line over it? On what were its foundation set, or who laid its cornerstone … of when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God (Zillions of angels) shout for joy, as they
