Life Through My Eyes, Before Church - Hope Baldwin

    He

The meeting began over the phone at work

    A relief conversation spin-off after a stressful

Work dilemma we figured out together

I was always concerned about his day

He always spoke with a pleasant tone

With a smile in his voice

I always pictured his smile as being warm

    Some things cannot be faked

He had been with me all my life

Although twenty years passed before I met him

I constantly missed what I did not have

I searched for that feeling, then one day

That tall man with a childish smile

    Walked into the office

And finally, I was exposed to what

    Everyone has been celebrating

That warm fuzzy feeling you get inside

When you see that special someone

I began to believe it didn’t exist

I have been married and engaged believing

    It was a fairly tale

I began to live life with the mindset

That love is being with someone who gives

The impression that they will do exactly

    What he says, enjoy laughing

Talk out all concerns and compromise

    As much as he can

Now I am forced to live without it

    That loving feeling

    Because he has that feeling

    For someone else

Life sucks! It really sucks to be me

To speak of him to others make them laugh

    Comments of my inferiority

    His expectations are always questioned

    My ethnicity and outspoken tone

    My environment is too overgrown

    To confirm his interest

    I asked for time

    In hopes that one day
