Patricia B Schoeler

Patricia B. Schoeler (Pat), a West Orange resident, was born and raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Having also lived in Livingston for 28 years, you can say she is a true "Jersey" girl. She retired from a management position in the corporate world. In retirement, Pat discovered her talent for writing poetry. Life's experiences, both happy and tragic, and the ability to empathize so deeply with others, gives her the passion to chronicle these events. She has the unique ability of putting her heart at the end of a pen and sharing this with others.

    Reflections on LIFE

    Pocket Philosophy

    To Marie E. Stopfer.

Marie walked with me every step of the way here on earth and continues to do so from heaven. She believed in me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. I am blessed!

    Thanks for the memories,

and thank you for my signs.

    Acknowledgment

Thank you to all my family and friends for watching out for me as I travel this difficult lonely path. Your love and support has helped me greatly. I couldn’t do this without you.

A special thanks to Marie Gengo for all her help and advice. She also walks this path in memory of her beloved husband Frank.

    Introduction

To those of us who have been blessed to experience true love, this is the price; at some point, we will all have to pay. As bad as it hurts now, to feel like your soul has been ripped out, the love you shared is absolutely worth it. Trying to hang on to the faith that someday we will be reunited and become whole again. In the raw beginning of this journey, it feels like this can’t happen soon enough, especially when this feeling of panic begins to set in. Not sure if it’s the correct word to use, but the fear of, if I let myself cry, what if I can’t stop? Thoughts of how can I possibly do this alone or the worst feeling right now is the feeling of why would I even want to? If your other half, your reason to get up in the morning, is taken away, then what’s the point? That’s the dark hole that you want to avoid. You will hover at the edge many times, but don’t let yourself fall in.
