About this ebook

I'll never forget the night God spoke to me in what sounded like an audible voice. I can’t tell whether I was woken from my sleep by the voice, or I was already awake when I heard it. I can’t tell either, whether I heard it within me or on the outside. However, the instruction was loud and clear: “Pray for my people!" He said.

"How does God speak? How can I hear his voice? How can I know when he speaks to me?" These are some of the questions on the minds of many. Perhaps you too are asking the same questions. This book provides answers to these questions and more.

This book is designed to guide you in a very simple and practical way, on how you can begin to hear from God.

Most people listen for God's voice with their physical ears, but that isn't where God speaks to us; God speaks to us in our spirit.

Learning to Hear from God - Moses Ohiwerei

    Preface

Life here on earth is full of complexities and uncertainties! Many times, we are faced with multiple complicated and confusing choices, and most of the times we don’t know what to do.

But things can be a lot better if we let God guide us and lead us by speaking to us. He says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye’.(Psalms 32:8; NKJV)

God still speaks, though you might never have heard him speak to you, because you didn’t know how to hear from him. All that is about to change as you begin to learn how to hear from God!

I encourage you to open your heart as you read through the pages of this book, and You can actually hear God speak to you, yes you can!

God Promises to Speak to You

Recently, I read an article by one Andrew Wommack, on the internet. The pastor narrates how God saved him from a plane crash by speaking to him. Here’s his testimony in his own words:

I once was planning a trip to Costa Rica, a place I had been before, and was excited to be returning to. Yet, as I prayed about it, I lost my desire to go. Instead I actually felt dread about going. The first thing I did when that happened was make sure I was really seeking the Lord with my whole heart. While on a road trip, I spent seventeen hours praying in tongues, and the more I got my mind stayed on the Lord, the less I wanted to go back to Costa Rica. On the strength of that alone, I canceled the trip. When the people of Coats Rica asked why, all I could tell them was I didn’t want to go. That was hard to do, and I’m not sure they understood. The plane I had booked my flight on crashed on take-off from Mexico City, killing all 169 persons on board.

That pastor was saved from the danger of certain death, by following God’s voice. Now you might say, But he didn’t hear any voice telling him not to go. Yes he didn’t, and that’s why many people miss God’s voice, they don’t understand the various ways God speaks to his children. I’ll explain this later as we proceed in this book.

For most people, God is a billion light years away, so the idea of hearing him speak to us is just another old fairy tale. But God does speak to his people, and he promises to speak to you.

The Bible is saturated with instances where God spoke to people through various means, including a donkey’s mouth. So why should he abruptly cease speaking in our own time? God still speaks, he’s the same God. "For I am the LORD, I change not."(Malachi 3:6).

Every father loves to talk with his children, so why shouldn’t the best dad in heaven and on earth talk with his own children?

So if you then being evil know how to speak to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven speak to his own children?

    What about the Bible?

Some folks argue that God doesn’t need to speak to us through any other way, since he’s already speaking to us in the Bible. Truly, the Bible is God’s word. God speaks to us through the Bible every time we read it. The Bible should be the main stay of our lives.

However, there are some specific and individual issues for which we can’t turn to the Bible for specific guidance. For example, am I supposed to be a pastor, a teacher, a medical doctor, or a business man? How do I know whom I should marry? The Lord says,

The Bible generally reveals God’s principles for living:

What Will God Speak to You about?

God has promised to reveal things to us when we ask him.

But what exactly will God speak to you about? God will speak to you about anything that concerns you: your walk with him, your prayer life, your health, your finance, your marriage, your children, your spouse, your family, your church, your workplace, your country, the body of Christ, and your friends.,

I knew the sexes of our first two children in their right order, and told my wife, Ify (then my fiance) long before we got married. Ify got pregnant immediately after we got married, and gave birth to a baby girl as the Lord had revealed to me. On the day our second child was born, I was in the waiting room interceding for my wife-who was in the labor room- and the baby. I had already written the name of our unborn baby boy down (even without a scan) and my wife knew it. As I prayed, I said, Lord, use him like you used Samuel in the Bible. Just then, the Spirit of God said to me, ‘That’s his name!" I had to name him Samuel, and made the name I had earlier chosen his middle name.

God is interested in everything about us, even those we might consider insignificant. For instance, a few years ago, I needed my passport photos for an important church document. I knew I had two sets of passport photos, but I couldn’t find them where I thought I had left them. I searched thoroughly for them for days but couldn’t find them. Then one day, while I was searching for the passport photos again, the Holy Spirit said, The reason you haven’t found them is that you have been looking for them where you expect them to be. Things are missing because they’re not where you expect them to be . That made much sense to me. The insight was so logical and so profound, yet I had never thought of it. On hearing that, I decided to deliberately look for the photos in places I never expected them to be. The first place I checked was my drawer, and to my astonishment, I found one set of the photos there. Next, I checked the open space behind my traveling box. As I put my hand in between the space, I touched the envelope containing the photos. It must have dropped in accidentally and hung there instead of falling through the empty space.

God will speak to you about anything that concerns you; it could be about the past, the present, or the future: he’s the God of all times- yesterday, today, and forever. Jesus says concerning the Holy Spirit.

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would third third guideposts us into all truth, and speak to us, whatever he hears, and show us things to come. Is the Holy
