شاذ و نادر ہی بے دفاع ہنس ہوتا ہے۔

یہاں تک کہ تھوڑا سا مشترک

بے دفاع ہنس کے ساتھ جو حرکت کرتا ہے۔

پہچان سے پرے، افق سے پرے

جہاز نہیں بلکہ ڈولفن

آگے تیرتا ہے، بہت آگے تیرتا ہے۔

جہاز، یہاں تک کہ وہ تیراکی سے تھک گیا۔

جہاز کے سامنے، لہروں میں غائب ہو جاتا ہے۔

اور اس طرح یہ ہوگا:

کہ وہ اوڑ اٹھاتا ہے۔

بادبانوں سے ہواؤں کو ہموار کرتا ہے،

پانی کے ساتھ مل جاتا ہے۔

اور نرم سوجن بن جاتا ہے

اس طرح نظم میں زندہ ہو رہا ہے۔

HOMAGE

—to and after Hans Faverey

Seldom has the defenseless swan

Even a little in common

With the defenseless swan which moves

Beyond recognition, beyond the horizon.

Not the ship, but the dolphin

Swims ahead, swims far in front of

The ship, until he, tired of swimming

In front of the ship, disappears in the waves.

And thus it will happen:

That he lifts the oars

Smoothens the winds out of the sails,

Merges with the water

And becomes soft swell

Thus resurrecting in the poem.
