    Spiritual Lifeboat - Joe Murphy

    Day 1

    In the beginning God created

    the heavens and the earth.

    —Genesis 1:1

    This opening quote of the Bible inspires us to both serve and love God. He is all powerful and thought enough of us to create us individually. He knows us intimately much, much better than we know ourselves.

    He knows just how much we are capable of achieving if we could only get out of our own way and ask for His grace. His blessing can enter our lives; all we have to do is ask. Because He sees and knows everything, it is best to ask for His wishes to be accomplished rather than our own, which are developed with only partial information. To understand the Creator’s will and be granted the power to carry it out, that’s a great job description! And the benefit package is wonderful too—our earthly cares taken care of and a full measure of peace and joy to experience every day.

    Today, I will remember to enlist God as my career counselor and ask for His power to guide all my efforts.

    Notes:

    Day 2

    When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, Moses! Moses! and Moses said, Here I am.

    —Exodus 3:4

    What a great statement to God, Here I am. We can make this statement every morning and let Him know we are ready to do His will.

    Moses was a great career example from the Old Testament—insecure, old, verbally challenged—yet God demonstrated through Moses what He can do, if a person has the here I am attitude.

    Moses was the first person in the Bible empowered to work miracles, yet he was so meek and humble, no wonder God loved him so much. As we cultivate the virtue of career willingness, let us be strengthened and inspired by how God used Moses in so many wonderful ways.

    Today, I will look for signs of God leading me in my career choices.

    Notes:

    Day 3

    I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.

    —Leviticus 11:44

    To be holy means to be set aside for a special purpose. This statement from God is one of the marvelous ways He has of telling each of us, You are special. You’re like Me in some incredibly wonderful ways, and I’d like to use you in My grand plan if you’ll let me.

    Every morning, I can reconsecrate my career to the Lord. I can develop the attitude that I am walking through the day with Jesus at my side demonstrating His love, patience, kindness, and wisdom to all who I interact with in my dealings.

    Today, I recognize God in everything in the world. I will pray for the grace to be holy, to be special, to be set aside for a special use.

    Notes:

    Day 4

    The Lord bless you and keep you;

    The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;

    The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.

    —Numbers 6:24–27

    What a wonderful blessing! And this was given by God to Moses in the way of a promise—you ask, and I will deliver.

    These words indicate the personal attention God is willing to give us if we are ready to obey His will.

    From a career perspective, His will for us can be determined by what appropriate doors open up as we seek to find our way. The knowledge that He is blessing us, keeping us, being gracious, and giving us His peace is a great comfort in times of uncertainty. His timing is perfect. If
