About this ebook

We came up with an idea: Good versus Evil. Kenny writes the bad side, and Joel writes the good side. The poetry of this book captures and reflects simultaneously both our bad actions, which we followed and which landed us in a bad spot: prison; and our reborn actions, which we now follow after committing our lives to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This has now brought us to a good spot: good works and the ability to do them, placed in us by Jesus. In the end, we came up with Peace Comes in the Morning, but this is not just a title. Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 (ESV), "Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." In other words, PEACE stands for "patiently eliminating a care every day." This is what Jesus is saying. Give him your cares. We pray this poetry helps those who read it, and please share with your friends and family. We thank you for reading and for praying for us.

Peace Comes in the Morning - Joel E. Lewis

    From Then to Now

    Joel Lewis and Kenneth Williams

JL: If only I knew then what I know now

KW: The forgiving love of Christ on my knees I would bow

JL: When I was young, I went to church, but it was just out of repetition

KW: So the love that Christ offered couldn’t reach me

JL: Just going through the motions each and every Sunday

KW: Not thinking about eternal life, I’m only living for the moment

JL: We didn’t have a personal relationship with the Lord

KW: We gave sin all our time and lived life through a fog

JL: When you really think about it, I guess we were just playing church

KW: Yeah, that’s what we did, thinking it wouldn’t hurt

JL: It’s so much different for me now in this day and time

KW: I gave my life to Christ and see my life through his eyes

JL: If I knew then what I know now, ain’t no telling where I’d be

KW: Still, God works to save souls through you and me

JL: I know for a fact I wouldn’t be here

KW: And ain’t no way I wouldn’t be living in fear

JL: Now I understand what it means when they say God will tell someone I never knew you

KW: If you’re not living for Christ, then you’re living for who?

JL: If only I had this personal relationship on the outside

KW: We would’ve been good but probably missed the work for him on the inside

JL: Now I have so much love, joy, and peace

KW: You can see the glory of God that surrounds me

JL: I dedicate the rest of my life to Jesus

KW: Why not? Even as a sinner Jesus gave his life for me though

JL: He’s a good, good father to me and everyone else,

KW: Giving unconditional love while you push him to the side and living for yourself

JL: Thank you, Jesus, for saving a wretch like me

KW: There’s not one key on earth that could set me free

JL: I’m born again and washed by the blood

KW: On the day I accepted Christ, all the angels in heaven I heard

JL: Jesus, you are enough for me

KW: There’s nothing else I’ll ever need

JL: I give my life to you as you gave yours for me

KW: My Lord and my God, thank you for the grace you give to me

Poem Pair #1: When the Smoke Clears

    Man-Made Hell

    Kenneth Williams

    Dark, cold solid cell

It’s a corrupt system in this man-made hell

Bricks and steel, world of pain

Try to cure the heart but it stays the same

    Struggles, hard struggles more

This place is rotten, bad to the core

Time slows when I enter my cell

Too many memories lost in this man-made hell

I’ll probably go crazy in this dark, cold cell

Maybe I should escape this man-made hell

    God-Made World

    Joel E. Lewis

So you really think that there is no God?

Our cell is dark and cold because our head was hard

As far as the system being full of corruption,

We wouldn’t even be here if we’d
