God over Hustle - Jaime Wieland

    January 1

1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, 3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, 5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, 6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, 7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, 8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

    —Ecclesiastes 3:1–8 (NIV)

Use this scripture to help you plan your activities:

Plant seeds by nourishing and creating relationships.

Give yourself the grace to heal from past wounds so you can move on from them to help others.

Be in the present so that you can enjoy life in the now and the people you are blessed to be around.

Ask those you have established relationships with to invest in you and try your products.

Seek new ways to use your products to help others.

Let those who are resistant, say no without hurting feelings and bugging them.

Learn how to ask the right questions and take the time to really listen to the answers.

Love every one enough to keep peace as best you can.

    January 2

24 She makes linen garments and sells them and supplies the merchants with sashes.

    —Proverbs 31:24 (NIV)

Everyone sells something. Anytime you talk someone into something, you are selling them. It’s a simple act of providing a solution to a problem. You don’t always get paid in cash for selling, but there’s a reward, a payment of some sort to coercing someone into buying an idea you sell. Network marketing isn’t any different. You have a solution to a problem. You simply need to find an audience with the problems you can solve. Make a list of those that you love enough to want to help.

    January 3

34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.

    —John 13:34–35 (NIV)

If you couldn’t speak, would your team or the people in your life know that you were a Christian simply by your actions and how you lived your life? What are some things you wish someone would do for you in your business? Are you doing them for others? If someone called you to explain how to use the products you just purchased from them, would you be upset or appreciative? If you would be appreciative then why would you feel anxious about telling your friends about your products? Would you like someone in your upline that is making money from your efforts to send you a personal thank-you card or a Starbucks certificate just for sharing your products so well? If so, are you doing that for those who are being faithful to you by selling or ordering every month?

    January 4

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

    —Romans 12:2 (NIV)

Your thoughts are simply opinions and beliefs that have been told to you over and over again so many times that you actually believe them as truth. But what if the people that gave you that information were wrong? Does someone’s opinion of you line up with what God says about you? Hint: there’s not a single place in the Bible that says that you are ugly, worthless, unlovable, unwanted, unable, not good enough, too fat, too skinny, etc.

If you have been coached into believing that you are not beautiful, purposeful, capable, loved, and enough, you have had the wrong coach. The good news is if you tell yourself the right things enough times, you can actually start believing those truths instead.

    January 5

12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

    —Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

If you are nervous about introducing someone to your products, remind yourself of how different your life would be if the person who introduced you to your products hadn’t. I personally would have been completely hurt if my friend hadn’t introduced me to her product because it truly changed my entire life when I was crippled with fear.

If you are afraid to follow up with someone, then imagine how you would feel if you purchased a product and were expecting some product support and none was given. One of the worst things that can happen in this business is that people have your products and aren’t using them because they simply don’t know how. Get out of your own way and help.

    January 6

9 But he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

    —2 Corinthians 12:9–11 (NIV)

We so often look at those who are successful and want to be like them immediately, not taking into account the sacrifice they once made. Our society tells us to hide our flaws to make our lives look perfect by putting more cover-up on, buying better clothes, applying a better filter, etc. The Bible tells us to be thankful for our flaws so that through them people can relate to us so we can build a relationship with them and help them. If we were all so perfect, we wouldn’t need Jesus. We would think so highly of ourselves that we wouldn’t call out to Him and no one would be able to relate to us. We need to make ourselves vulnerable so that people understand that we get them, we understand what they are suffering with, and we can help. Use your imperfections and mistakes to glorify God and reach others who are perfectly imperfect like you.

    January 7

23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

    —Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)

This doesn’t mean you should put up walls to protect yourself from all the evil and selfish people of the world. This means you have an obligation not to allow jealousy, anger, and guilt build in your heart so much that it flows out of your mouth. Don’t do things for people out of obligation but let the passion you have for your products turn into compassion for others. If you find yourself in a situation where someone wants to join a different team than yours, or even wants to switch teams from you, let them. Chances are they aren’t going to grow with you anyway, and your time is better spent on the people who are more like you. Let your heart forgive and move on from those that can grow elsewhere without holding you back.

    January 8

2 But whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.

    —Psalm 1:2–3 (NIV)

If you meditate on God’s Word, your heart is transformed to His. You then know God’s will in your life so that each step you take toward helping His kingdom using your product is a step closer to Him and success. Some of the best ways to meditate throughout your day is to constantly and consistently listen to Christian music like K-Love, spend time in the Bible, put a scripture on your bathroom mirror, and/or keep a journal or devotional of scriptures that motivate you. Do what you have to do to keep Him with you at all times so that you have something to rescue you from the trials of your day.

    January 9

10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

    —Luke 14:10–11 (NIV)

Don’t make everything about you. If you are teaching classes, try to do so without using the word I. Include your team members in on what you have happening so that you are exalting them and their experiences rather than just your own. People will want to be a part of a community that they have a place in to lift others up so that they can be a part of something bigger than themselves.

    January 10

4 As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.

    —Ephesians 4:1 (NIV)

Everyone at some point in time asks themselves what their purpose is. How lucky for you that you found it! Use the passion that God has placed in your heart about your products to help others so that they can reach their full potential to fulfill their calling. There are so many struggling with the same things that you struggled with and found a solution for. Be a part of their healing by sharing with them, just as someone shared with you.

    January 11

26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

    —Proverbs 31:26 (NIV)

As women, we are often led with our emotions. I don’t know about you, but I have had to pull the foot out of my mouth more times than I would like to admit. We are in the business of people, and people matter—all people, even if those people’s opinions don’t align with ours at all times. Watch your witness in what you say to others and what you post because what you are speaking is what you are teaching.

For example, are you for or against stricter gun laws because of the recent school violence? Do you think someone who disagrees with you needs your products? If you post your opinion on social media, do you think those that feel just as strongly against your opinion are going to be excited about buying from you? Do you think that your post is going to be the aha thing that is going to change someone’s mind about that subject? Better yet, how do you think your opinion on that is going to look for your witness to Christ? Do you think it will help or hurt your witness to someone who doesn’t share in that same view?

    January 12

16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created.

    —James 1:16–18 (NIV)

Can you feel the responsibility in this scripture? If we as Christians can do good with the people that God has entrusted to us, how much more will He bless us? He doesn’t call us to sell products but to use our products to help others either with the products we fell in love with, or as a means to build relationships and tell our stories to glorify Him in us.

    January 13

42 Jesus called them together and said, You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

    —Mark 10:42–45 (NIV)

What greater compliment is there than to have someone want to imitate what you are doing? I actually follow some leaders on social media who aren’t even in the same business as I because I simply love the way that they run their business and how they share their story to help others. I pray that others could say that about me. What are you giving of yourself to help others? It doesn’t have to be on social media. Maybe your thing is meeting others at coffee shops or networking groups. Whatever your thing is, do it with intentions of serving others.

    January 14

30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.

    —Proverbs 11:30 (NIV)

A tree gives so much to so many; nuts to squirrels, shade for us, home to bees and birds, therapeutic oils, etc. Be a teacher to those willing to learn, provide a safe place for those in need, provide guidance to those building a business, be a farmer by planting seeds for your business everywhere you go, and be a witness in all of them. Don’t sell products. Sell yourself and the way you live your life. Live in such a way that your life gives back to others in all facets of what you do.

    January 15

17 You may say to yourself, My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me. 18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

    —Deuteronomy 8:17–18 (NIV)

I wish I could tell you that the secret to success is making three calls a day to strangers, making three calls daily to old friends, and posting something about your product on social media, but it just wouldn’t be true. This is not a business separate from everything else we do. It’s a lifestyle. Imagine the life you want. Is it a life of constantly working and seeking out people to sell them products, or is it a lifestyle of balance with God guiding your steps and leading you to those who need your products? Whatever you choose, don’t just imagine it but map out a plan to make it a reality.

    January 16

1 The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. 2 They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. 3 They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. 4 But many who heard the message believed; so, the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.

    —Acts 4:1–4 (NIV)

There will always be people, haters who aren’t into what you are selling, but keep on keeping on because there will always be more who are. You need to be intentional about who you share your products with. Don’t just assume everyone everywhere needs what you have. They may, but you need to narrow down who your target audience is. What age group are you targeting, men or women, level of education, family dynamics, working or unemployed, where do these people hang out on social media, what networking groups do they attend, what times are they home, and what are the best ways to reach them? Take these answers and be deliberate with them, so you know where to find the people who need you.

    January 17

18 You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.

    —Exodus 18:18 (NIV)

Thankfully it’s not luck or worth that warrants success. If it were, I wouldn’t have any in my life. But that’s what Satan feeds us. That’s what he wants us to believe. Success comes from making time in your day to build a relationship with God, read about Him, pray to Him, worship Him, take some moments of silence to hear Him, and work for Him. After you have made time in the morning for God, do your best to do everything in your day as if He were watching. Then you can live peacefully with the confidence that God is going to bless your efforts.

You don’t have to be perfect in everything you do. But you do have to pray for forgiveness when you do screw up and then learn to let it
