The fact that I am writing this book is a miracle. I should not be here. I have Prinzmetal’s angina, also called Prinzmetal’s variant angina (PVA), a rare heart condition affecting about 1–2 percent of the population. It is on the United States’ rare disease database. I realize I don’t like the word disease . I prefer the term condition . If you look up the definition of disease, it is a disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location. It is not simply a direct result of physical injury. My condition is named after Dr. Prinzmetal who discovered it in 1959. Even being able to write these sentences is a miracle. It took me five years to get a diagnosis and to learn the name of my condition. It required endless and costly testing, referrals, and inaccurate
