It doesn’t take courage to be a dreamer!

But it does take courage to turn dreams into reality!

Iwish to express my deep appreciation for my wife, Patricia, and all our kids for the encouragement, suggestions, and patience with me as I put this book of poems and the additional writing together. Their help showed me how great love can be between family members when a person needs it.

Also to my friends Laurel, Hayley, and Joe.

    Preface

When a person writes a book, many thoughts may go through their mind. My passion for writing this book is my quest to help others. All humanity struggle with so many problems. A great many of us seem to drift from day to day, asking, What is the reason for my life? Am I just taking up space, or do I have a purpose? Is there a God? Did Jesus Christ really live? If there is a God, why do we have to go through such pain, and why do bad things happen to good people? Whoever you are, as you live your life, you will encounter four main elements: the power of love, the power of fear, the power of faith, and the power of the human spirit.

I have tried to cover all these elements in the different chapters. The chapters outline who we are and how very special we are. I like to say there are two days that have very special meaning: one is the day you are born; the other day is when you find out why.

You are not living without purpose. Each of us have something that only we can do. The purpose of your life, whoever you are, is to find out why you are here! The purpose of this book is to try to help you find that purpose. Whoever you are, you should know that you are a child of God on a divinely appointed earthly mission. It is suggested that maybe you keep a pen handy so that you can make notes of the helpful ideas that are on the many pages throughout this book.

Remember, you are not a physical person having a spiritual experience; you are a spiritual person having a physical experience!

Throughout this book, I hope that you will read and enjoy many of my poems. I have tried to cover all the different aspects of what we experience in our day-to-day struggle. I follow my poems with scriptures, which show how the Bible covers many of the everyday problems, and after that, I have included a short narrative about how I feel it can give us counsel.

God bless you on your earthly adventure. You will be surprised at not only what you will see but also what you will encounter if you allow yourself to be immersed in your life’s story. I hope this book will help you find your dreams.

    Chapter 1

    The Beginning of Your Journey

Agreat many things went through my mind as I started to write this book. There have been so many books written concerning the love that we are offered by our Heavenly Father and our Beloved Savior, Yeshua (Jesus Christ). Included in this book are the many poems that I have written, and I have tried to weave within them how we are all children of God. But none preach a particular doctrine from any church. The poems and the words written are meant to be universal.

A great many of us are so blessed, maybe not always with money, which seems to have taken over every corner of society, but with the blessing of love and friendship, of having good health, and experience the fellowship that family members can give us. We can, with their help, also develop a balanced personality, and we will find it easier to laugh and just enjoy our lives.

I felt that if I could tell others of our family’s adventures and tragedies, then the words of this book might open up a person’s mind, and add to that the strength of the human spirit, then that would enable us to soar with the eagles. For this to happen, we must take the words of this book and books with like themes into our heart, both spiritually and emotionally. We have found that the answer to our problems is to love our Heavenly Father and our Beloved Savior and allow them to help us. Many of my poems are very personal, and they also testify that we are all children to our God, and I have tried to explain how much he loves us and how very gentle he is in his love for us all.

One of the most beautiful and thrilling aspects about humankind is the great diversity that we all exhibit. Though we all share mortality, our individual personality traits, talents, life trials, opportunities, and the circumstances under which we live vary greatly. We are, as they say, different as two peas in a pod, yet we all have similar physical characteristics.

As we walk through life, or as I call it, the Valley of Laughter and Tears, we will experience many challenges, some easy and some very hard to handle. As you embark upon this journey, you should always remove as much negativism as possible. In its place, you should always try to think and act with a positive attitude. A good way to start on this journey is to remove from your mind and vocabulary the following: I’ll try, If only, and I can’t. As Yoda says, There is no try. Either you do it or don’t do it.

When you change the way you think, the many challenges that you will face may be hard to handle at first, but the stronger your positive attitude becomes, so do life’s problems become as they say water off a duck’s back. Later on in the book, I’d like to remind everyone that we, as mortals, are creatures of habit, and a great many of us may have carried a great amount of negative baggage over the years. Whatever it is we are trying to understand, whether life or the scriptures. We sometimes read the scriptures with a negative mind, and then it seems as if nothing makes any sense.

You have to understand that society has conditioned a great many people with negative thoughts, and they may have even attempted to insert you into a pigeonhole. When you start to buck the system, or when you move out of your comfort zone, you may see many roadblocks spring up. The roadblocks may come from the least likely source, family members or perhaps even your close friends. But if these negative thoughts and actions come to you, be happy, because they can see you are changing. They will always try to stop you changing the way you think.

Your family and friends don’t really mean any harm. It’s just that we have all been conditioned to stay in our comfort zone. You might feel like a ship being tossed about in an angry, unforgiving sea.

    Life Struggles

Great crises can come to anyone at anytime,

Like a lightning bolt out of a stormy sky.

So how do we prepare to face life’s storms?

By strength of character, mixed with

    Love, faith, hope, and knowledge

How do we obtain this, by holding up our hand to God?

These virtues are obtained by a steady lifelong

    process of growing and learning!

When you have built these strengths,

you will never tremble with fear in the face

    of great sorrow or temptation

    For you have prepared through

    a lifetime of struggles;

Remember after the storm, comes a rainbow,

    this should remind all humanity

of our Heavenly Father promise that

    peace comes after the storm.

However, whatever these challengers are, we must learn that our Lord and Savior will never be far from our side. He will always be closer than a summer raindrop. The companionship that we can develop between ourselves, the Heavenly Father, and Yeshua can take a second or a lifetime. The reason for the length of time that is required, I believe, depends on what we have to learn and how we live our lives.

If I were to ask you, What do you think is the greatest miracle in the world? I wonder what would be your answer. Of course there may be many answers to this question, but I believe the greatest miracle is the growth of the human body and the mind. When we are born, we may lie in our mother’s arms. We can see, but doctors tell us that at first items are a little blurred. We hear, but as yet, we cannot make sense of the sounds; as yet our legs will not carry the weight of our little bodies.

Yet everything in the world, from the smallest item to the largest item, were all created from the three and half pounds between our ears that we call a brain. We grow from a baby with such a helpless beginning to adulthood.

Thomas Edison said that everything in the world that man has made or discovered began as an impulse of thought. Everything started the same way. If we were to think back in history, let’s say from the start of the Roman Empire to 1880, through all those years we used wagons and horses for transportation, and for lighting, we used candles and/or olive oil. We’ve progressed more in the last 140 years than we did over the last 2,500 years. Everything we do today revolves around modern technology, such as electricity, cars, generators, computers, and satellites.

On this journey of growth, we will develop a number of personality traits. We all know that this is what makes us who we are and what kind of person we will become.

    Baking a Cake Called Life

To bake a cake called life, you have to put

in the right ingredients, then miracles will happen!

Take a heaping cup of talent and dreams

a pinch of imagination, combine and

mix with a cup of I will.

Add a tablespoon of humility, love, and prayers

a dash of faith, hope, persistence, and the scriptures

Stir vigorously, until all the ingredients are well blended.

Then pour into the pan of life,

Cook in the oven of burning desire,

Then serve topped with love for

Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and all humanity.

Be you therefore perfect, even as you’re Father who

    is in Heaven is perfect.

    —Matthew 5:48

Let your light so shine before men that they may see

your good works, and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.

    —Matthew 5:16

As we grow, we should continually be developing our personality traits. The one thing you must remember and never forget is that as you grow and learn, you will become a sum total of your thoughts, or it may be said, we become what our thoughts feed upon. These will govern every part of your life. The other part of who we are is, we are creators of habit. Now we can govern our habits or let them govern us. That’s how powerful habits are. It is said that to form a habit that we can control, whether it be to study, work, or a recreation habit, it will take about thirty days for that habit to come under our own control.

    Whenever you cultivate a thought,

    Remember it will trace

With certain touch in pictured form

    A story on your face

Whenever you dwell upon a thought

    Remember it will roll

    Into your being and become

    A fiber of your soul,

Whenever you send out a thought,

    Remember it will be

    A force throughout the universe

    For all eternity.

    —Author unknown

One of the greatest gifts that we have been given is free agency. What that means is, we make choices in our everyday lives. We choose how we will live, whether close to God or whether we will allow sin to push us away. Having free agency allows us to act as we see fit. A great many people become very arrogant and develop an ego. It seems sometimes that some people are so full of themselves that they tread where angels fear to tread.

Your personality will develop as you mix with your fellows. It is said that the most dangerous part of our makeup is our tongue. You will, through this organ, either make friends or enemies. Think of yourself as a cake as per the poem. You will need all the personality traits mentioned if you wish to have a balanced life.

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil,

    full of deadly poison.

    —James 3:8

When you feel tempted to move away from God, maybe you should ask yourself the question, Would you walk into a lion’s den? You see, a lion can kill the body, but Satan call kill the soul.

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not

able to kill the soul; but rather fear him which is able to destroy?

both soul and body in hell.

    —Matthew 10:28

What choice would you make? The other part of this equation is that because of free agency, our Lord cannot interfere directly. However, he can prompt us through the small, still voice in our minds. We still have to make the decisions. Even when we pray and ask God for guidance, we listen, and then we do what we feel is right, no more no less. A great many people
