    Preface

Welcome to my heart and soul! This is my first book, and I’m grateful for your interest. I strived to create a book of thought that is true for me, informative and pleasurable to you, and understandable and relatable to all.

I have always been inspired by the works of the master poets and authors like Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, William Shakespeare, Poe, and Langston Hughes. They are expert storytellers as well as master wordsmiths. Their works have inspired scholarly study and stoked the imagination of many poets and authors in all genres. My goal in writing this book was to also tell good short stories in a poetic styling. While classes may not be constructed around my work (yet), I believe you will find a few gems here as well.

Some of my works, such as I’ll Remember Dad, A Mother’s Love, I Walked with an Angel, and Children speak of family connections. This subject was, is, and always will be precious and dear to my heart.

Other poems such as Christmas Bells, The Test, The Mask, We Ran for the Trolley Car, and a few others reflect the emotions and mental trials many of us experience when adversity and negative perceptions are allowed to flourish in our lives.

Do You Recall? My Country, Where Will We Be, and others speak to the political and mental temperament of this country today.

Guns in Our Schools and The Burning Forest reflect current disasters we see much too often in the news.

There are also healthy smatterings of faith and morality based and philosophical poems here as well. Poems like Homeless, Mercy, Jewels, In Worship’s House, and a few others will reflect this.

I’ve even included some experiences that I’ve had as a youth that border on the supernatural.

The poems My Ghostly Trip and Haunted Places are prime examples.

Should my work inspire thought, provoke emotions, or change a few minds, I will consider myself supremely complimented. Please enjoy the stories with an open mind, and thank you again for reading me!

    —Edward A. Waples Jr.
