About this ebook

Within the pages of the Holy Bible, the Lord God Almighty used fire in powerful ways to deliver His message. His authority became apparent when He brought or sent fire down. A few excellent illustrations include Elijah and the prophets of Baal, the three young men in the fiery furnace, Sodom and Gomorrah, and Moses at the burning bush and the tongues of fire on the day of Pentecost. Consider also our largest visual source of fire and heat. The solar sun eclipses and blood moons are often considered as key events or signs in God's Word. Flames entered my apartment in 1992 and left behind four distinct burned images with sealed messages from the eternal consuming fire. The amazing images in my bedroom later told the story of my heart attack. The Holy Spirit unlocked these images by His Word through time. The Cokeville miracle story also has a detailed fire image that was burned into the wall. Its message had been well hidden until now. Learn the interpretations for these miraculous images and understand that the same Creator who made these images will be returning someday with His fire vision to judge all things. The single most important and unanswered question for many people today remains a mystery. Ask yourself, "How will the King of kings see me?"

    Fire Vision - Steven Harrison

    The Hail Before the Fire

The prophet who has a dream, let him tell a dream; And he who has my word, let him speak My word faithfully, What is chaff to the wheat? says the Lord. Is not my word like a fire? says the Lord. And like a hammer that breaks the rocks in pieces?

    —Jeremiah 23:28-29

This most excellent adventure and story was ignited and born in the spring of 1992. This was way back in time when the music of Petra, Whitecross, Stryper, and Michael W. Smith were among my most played and cherished Christian music albums. This incredible story actually started on one fine, feel good kind of day. My life was blessed, and there were many people and things in it to give God thanks for.

It was in the midmorning hours while I was radically jamming out and worshipping God with Petra’s energetic rock song I Am on the Rock from their magnificent Beyond Belief album, when a strong and powerful weather event was preparing to unleash its restrained wrath and raging fury. I was caught completely and totally unaware of the inclement weather, which was developing outside in the churning skies above our Overland Park, Kansas, three-bedroom apartment. I can distinctly recall that special, unusual thumping sound of what I had first thought were roofers or maintenance people hammering on the roof. I can specifically remember thinking about how strange it was that the hammering was slowly and steadily increasing. This random, radical storm started with only a single distinct thud. Then another loud thud quickly followed. Immediately, there were a couple more thuds closer together. The pounding, intense thuds were accelerating in frequency and intensity over the next few minutes. Soon, the heavenly music was beating and drumming on the roof like a Robert Sweet drum solo. Then it rapidly went beyond that, as impossible as that seems, to a building shaking, earthquake-like thundering roar and immense torrent of biblical proportions! There was a massive amount of amazing lightning, almost nonstop like Pink Floyd laser light show. The explosive booming thunder was barely audible above the blasting concussions of the heavenly hail hammering down hard from the heights.

I had eventually opened up my blinds and looked out from my second story window. I was stunned and amazed to see the thousands or perhaps even millions of the beautiful white, icy round baseballs falling from the turbulent sky and covering most of the ground. It looked exactly like how I would imagine that a Kansas City Royals’ batting practice would look on hyperdrive accelerants! The swirling winds and flashing lightning were moving as if the angels were skillfully playing electric harps with their wings in them.

My poor old battered truck, I thought as I was looking out of the bedroom window. My Chevy (like a rock) Silverado pickup truck was taking a severe beating. The Sky Dome Pitcher was hurling the hailstorm hailstone ice rock baseballs at my truck while I was listening to the song I Am on the Rock! Maybe I should have played the song Car Wash by Rose Royce instead. The year of 1985 was great, a memorable, happy year for both the Royals and for my truck. But in 1992, they were both clobbered and badly beaten! The aluminum camper shell on the truck took the brunt of this powerful pummeling punishment.

After this brutal beat down had finally ceased, the battered aluminum camper shell looked more like an enlarged golf ball cover because of the crater-like indentions all over it. This behemoth baseball-sized hailstorm was a major disaster that kept the insurance agents, roofers, and auto-body repair shops busy for quite a while. My sister Vicki, along with many others, needed to have repairs or new roofs for their houses.

I didn’t have any renter’s insurance for the apartment at the time of this wild, psycho hailstorm. The still small voice of the Holy Spirit inside of me hinted to me after this storm that now might be a good time to purchase some. He really helped me to begin to think about and to consider what might happen should a Wizard of Oz like tornado come along and do an extreme makeover (Toto destruction) with all my stuff. This area is in tornado alley, Kansas, that we are talking about, and our apartment is located on the top floor of a building which is sitting on the top of a hill. I knew for sure that there had to be an invisible bullseye painted on the side of the apartment building for Mother Nature’s target practice! Therefore, it made perfect sense to buy some renter’s insurance for the very first time in my life. You could say that I finally got a clue or warning and that I had listened to it. I had lived in apartments for well over twelve years and had never purchased insurance before this time.

The Lord is very good and sure when giving us clues! I would learn this fact exceptionally well over the next twenty-two years! The main problem for most people is that too many times, we don’t pay attention to His clues and we fail miserably to listen, to understand, and to trust what the Cosmic Clue Giver is saying. Many times, God will whisper in your ear or tap you on your shoulder to get your attention. Like the hailstorm, He will only get louder and stronger over time when you continue to ignore His promptings. Your life may become enveloped by a massive storm if you fail to pay attention to Him. I had absolutely no idea at all at that time exactly how much or in what way that the renter’s insurance would be needed. Only our heavenly Father knew!

When we listen to what His Holy Spirit is saying to us and we lift up our hearts and eyes to Him, then we will see things properly in His radiant, illuminating fire light, and all things work out really well for us in the end! As believers, we must learn to hear from God and be led by the Holy Spirit. He leads, we follow. His sheep know His voice!

Then He said, Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire, and after the fire a still small voice. (1 Kings 19:11–12)

The hailstorm experience was Gods way of saying, Go out and buy insurance! There wasn’t a physical earthquake other than in my mind. My thoughts were being shaken up in this case, and the hailstones were like rocks in the winds, which made the building tremble. After the hailstorm came, the apartment fire blazed, and the burned-in fire vision images manifested; and after the fire, my heart attack; and after my heart attack, there was a still small voice.

The Holy Spirit leads us to the truth and teaches us all things (John 14:26). He always uses the Holy Bible as the foundation. Jesus Christ is the Word of God (John 1:1, 1:14). He is found throughout the entire Holy Bible, both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. When your eyes are opened to this truth, your faith will expand exponentially! Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone of the foundation (Ps. 118:22; Ep. 2:20). Everything that is built upon him will stand forever!

The things He shows us and gives us are building materials that we can use to build upon this solid foundation. The Holy Spirit of God speaks to us in a wide variety of ways. He frequently speaks through His Word, nature, music, dreams, visions, supernatural events (fire visions), other people, and His still small voice. The Holy Spirit of God is not limited in what He can speak through. I have not yet heard God’s booming audible voice, but some people have. Someday, all will hear His voice and see Him! The greatest day for believers is coming!

    Chapter 2

    Fired Up!

And the Lord sent thunder and hail, and fire darted to the ground.

    —Exodus 9:23

Hey, do you all feel like renting a movie tonight? I asked Buddy, Linda, and their son Chris one evening. This was the family that I was living with in the three-bedroom apartment at the time of the fire back in 1992. We frequently vegetated together in the evenings to watch an exciting Blockbuster video rental movie if there were only heartburn inducing programs on TV, which caused visual indigestion as they flowed through the video feeding tube.

"I heard about a recently released video called Backdraft. It’s all about some brave fire fighters who risk their lives while fighting fires. I heard that it is a really smokin’ hot rental!" I said jokingly.

That sounds really good! Go ahead and get that! They all agreed. And bring back some popcorn and snacks!

We were all fired up and ready for some flaming hot, heroic action scenes, and this movie delivered all that, literally! After intensely watching this fiery, action-filled movie, we were all sizzled and scorched in our emotions.

That sure was one intense movie! Linda said.

It seemed so real that I could almost feel the heat and smell the smoke! If I had been eating marshmallows, they would have been toasted! Buddy said.

Man, I thought that I wanted to be a fire fighter when I grew up but not after seeing all that! Chris exclaimed passionately.

After the show Backdraft was over, I went back out and returned the movie, then headed into work at the local Merriam, Kansas, Seven-Eleven (oh, thank heaven!) where I worked nightly from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Later on during this very same night, around 2:30 a.m., my companion apartment dwellers suddenly and unexpectedly showed up at the store where I was working and entered in. At first, I had thought that they were just hungry and had decided to come in for some nachos and snacks. Then I noticed their distraught look and caught a whiff of the strong smell of smoke on all them. Very quickly, I had been informed of the real reason for this highly unusual right time visit—our apartment had burned!

This devastating fire had started sometime during the night between midnight and 1:00 a.m. The smoke detector in the hallway had been beeping for a while before anyone had woken up! Everyone had been soundly sleeping and was in the first few hours of deep sleep, probably having some nightmares about the Backdraft movie. Could you imagine watching a movie about a fire, then having nightmares about being in a fire, then suddenly waking up only to find out that you are actually in a raging fire?

It would have taken the bold sound of a Stryper concert at full volume to wake them all up! Chris woke up first. The intense flames were all around him as his bedroom was fully engulfed. The flames were moving through the hallway and were entering into his parent’s bedroom. Almost everything had caught fire and was blazing in Chris’s bedroom by the time he woke up. It was actually the heat from the fire that had woke Chris up! He arose terror filled and suffered some burns as he ran through the flames, frantically yelling for his parents to wake up!

There were two fire extinguishers in the apartment. One of them was located just inside of my bedroom doorway, and the other was in the kitchen. The fire had become way too big to even try to battle and to put out at this time. The one and only thought that they had was to get out of there quickly!

Somehow, Buddy had mysteriously grabbed the lazy Susan from off the kitchen table, as they all escaped the raging inferno with nothing but the clothes on their backs! Later, we all joked about why Buddy grabbed only the lazy Susan from the dining room table, when he could have grabbed and saved something of greater value or importance. As you will see later in chapter 8, the lazy Susan was not meant to be left on the dining room table.

Everyone had successfully escaped the fire alive, thank God! Some smoke inhalation and minor burns were the only injuries. Linda had used the neighbor’s phone to dial 911. The fire department responded quickly. One fire fighter was injured battling the blaze, when part of the ceiling fell on him. The fire was contained to our apartment only.

Chris’s bedroom was totally and completely burned and consumed. This was the origin of the fire. An unattended candle was stated by the fire department as being the cause of the fire, although I really don’t remember Chris ever having any candles in his room. Chris often fell asleep with the radio headphones on and the fan running. That was probably the reason why he didn’t hear the smoke detector going off. Every single thing in Chris’s room was lost, destroyed, except for Chris.

The hallway, the main bathroom off the hallway, and the linen closet in the hallway were all charred to a crisp!

Would you like a still warm, freshly burnt, smoke-filled sheet of ashes for your bed, sir? Linda asked me later with a big, happy smile.

Buddy and Linda’s bedroom looked like a giant burnt marshmallow. My room was toasted a little lighter only because the door was closed. It took just a little more time for the fire to burn through that basic wooden door. An aluminum or metal door would have saved most of my personal possessions.

Inside Chris’s bedroom. This is Chris’s charred bedroom closet.

This is the linen closet at the end of the hall. My master bedroom is to the right. Buddy and Linda’s room is to the left.

Chris’s bedroom door is mid-hallway, across from the main bathroom.

The whitish image of the small hand on the clock shows that it was between 1:30 and 1:45 a.m. when the fire was a blazing inferno.

Here is some free fire advice for you. Have an extra working smoke detector also in your bedroom, not just in your hallway. If a fire ever breaks out in your home, close as many doors as you can. Only do this on your way to the exit, however, and never go out of your way just to close a door. Get out as quickly and safely as possible, closing the exit door behind you when leaving. Have a good working fire extinguisher or two, fire insurance, and a bag of marshmallows! (peeps smile!)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! Check your walls for any unusual images! (after the fire is put out!)

    Chapter 3

    Beauty for Ashes

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes.

    —Isaiah 61:1–4

It is going to be a very long time before I can enjoy an outdoor campfire and its nice smell again! I said, as we choked and coughed our way through the charred and smoky remains of our extra crispy, flame-broiled, ashen-laden fried apartment. The carnage and destruction were incredible and inedible! The living room, dining area, and kitchen all suffered mostly from high heat and smoke damage.

Have you ever seen the movie Fried Green Tomatoes? We had our very own uncut version sitting fried on the kitchen windowsill waiting to ripen.

The lampshades in the living room had melted down to the end tables from their once lofty perches on top of the lamps. The fun-filled kid’s song titled This Little Light of Mine came into my mind with some new words for the choruses: Hide it under a melted lampshade, oh no! I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine!

No one, when he has a lit lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light. Luke 8:16–17

God lit the lamp of this fire! He has currently made it possible for us all to see His light! The previously hidden secrets and revelations from this fire became uncovered and known over time! When we recognize, understand, and acknowledge plainly what is in our sight, then we will experience the higher calling and the inner joy and peace of the Holy Spirit. The realization and belief in the existence of the higher power of God in all things will transform a person’s whole life! Faith is seeing God in the dark trials as well as in the light of good days.

The sliding glass patio doors leading out to the balcony had severely cracked. The glass was getting ready to break out and shatter, which could have instantly caused a backdraft, ironically. The fire would have received a fresh supply of outside air, causing it to grow and spread much quicker like wildfire, possibly spreading to other units. When we as believers receive a fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit, our faith should also grow and spread like wildfire, affecting other people around us. I want to see the whole world on fire, illuminated by the firelight of God!

Fried Green Tomatoes on the windowsill. Extra hot spices in rack.

The calendar read May 1992. Toasted bread, anyone?

This lamp is a shady character. Like the sunset jigsaw puzzle, the sun went down on my life in this apartment.

The Indian picture exclaims, Hail to the chief, King Jesus!

The May 8, 1992, date is confirmed by the calendar.

God’s perfect timing, and the fact that He is in control and gives us warnings and messages of events before they happen (prophecy) is illustrated here by the clock key (time) and the remote control.

The VCR played the prophetic Backdraft movie.

    Poor Fred! He’s dead! RIP.

I confess to you right now that I have never watched the movie Backdraft since that ill-fated night. Today, when I look back, I no longer consider that night to be ill fated, but rather I see it as an inevitable or necessary predetermined event for my life! After all these years, there is still no desire in me to watch that movie again. It took a while before I started enjoying the smell of an outdoor campfire again, but thank God, I did eventually recover that pleasure. There are very few things in life that smell as nice as a campfire on a cold winter’s night!

In the smoked out living room, hanging eerily over the fireplace, our once proud American Eagle figure had hung its sad, melted head as if dead, poor Fred! The only flying that his drooping, melted wings would ever be doing again would be from the hands of the disposal crew into the dumpster! The melted patio door drapery yelled curtains as their play had forever ended. The VCR player was sentenced to death for being the unfortunate prophetic messenger of the impending fire. He was burned at the intake! His time to be kind and rewind was over!

The custom remodeling job on the living room wall, where the fire fighters had punched a hole for the firehose to spray into Chris’s bedroom, was a nice conversation starter and an original decorating idea! It won an extinguished, distinguished award for being the best hole in the wall hot spot in town for getting a refreshing cold drink of water to quench a fiery dragon-mouth thirst!

The blackened pictures on the wall looked as though they came straight out of an old time mystery movie. You know the kind where curious people find an old, dust-covered painting in an ancient, musty attic or basement of a creaky, spooky, old haunted house after hundreds of years had passed? Ugly soot and smoke had covered the pictures like old dust, hiding all the specific details and covering their beauty.

The thick smothering smoke and its putrid stench permeated everything! Once that smell gets into your clothes, it will never come out! You might as well burn them! Anything made of fabric or cloth is as good as ruined! Bedding, mattresses, couches, and carpets were all trash! Nothing in the entire apartment had escaped at least some sort of damage except for some kitchen items like silverware, pots, pans, and the food in the fridge. The kitchen was the farthest room away from the flames. The rest of the apartment, however, did most of the cooking!

Quench your dragon-mouth thirst at this famous hole in the wall drinking establishment.

The firefighters hosed the fire here. Notice that the fireworks picture is covered in smoke. How ironic!

Hole in the wall view from Chris’s bedroom.

God-incidentally does this shape look like a flame of fire to you?

I would have cooked that plastic chicken! said the jealous BBQ grill on the patio.

Curtains! Your play is over! sung the fire in a scorching voice.

An eerie view down the treacherous hallway where the ceiling fell on an unsuspecting firefighter.

The doorway to the right is Chris’s bedroom.

The patio and front door are to the left in the living room. Chief went to smoke his peace pipe!

Everything that was out in the open area of the burn zone had been damaged by smoke or fire, except for—what’s this?

The Stryper silk screen artwork that features four white angels on a black silk background, who are casting the devil into the lake of fire and sulfur, was not damaged by smoke or burned by fire. From out of the awful carnage and the disgusting stench in our apartment, this silk screen image could easily be used to depict an overall battle scene and theme from the fire in a symbolic way. The silk screen artwork was fashioned from the Stryper album cover design from To hell with the devil (Rev. 20:10).

The four heavenly angels on the Stryper silk screen represent the four band members of Stryper who are seen surrounding the devil, breaking his guitar and casting him into the abyss. These angel images are white with a black background. The fire vision images on the apartment walls and also the Stryper silk screen artwork images were both white with a black background. (The light overcomes the darkness?)

The location of the four individual fire vision images God-incidentally surrounded Chris’s bedroom, which was the source of the fire and total destruction. This is in a similar formation to the Stryper silk screen artwork where the four angels surrounded the devil and the lake of fire, sulfur, and brimstone.

This Stryper silk screen artwork had been hanging on my bedroom wall immediately to the right of the bedroom door as you first enter my bedroom. After the fire, I had found this silk screen neatly folded and carefully placed on the floor directly behind the burned through bedroom door under a layer of ashes! The silk screen had been hanging on the wall above this same spot yesterday before I went to work. I was bewildered and curious now as to who or what could have possibly folded it up neatly like that and had carefully placed it on the floor before or during the fire.

The Stryer silk screen angel artwork didn’t even smell of smoke! All the white angels were still just as white as they had been before the fire! Unbelievable! Everything else like this in the apartment was damaged, had smelled of smoke, and had a nasty layer of ash covering on it. Why not this particular item? Much later, I would be shown the answer to my question. This unusual enigma was yet another special clue of a series of many clues pointing to the mystery and message surrounding this fire. At first, it seemed to me that all the images that were burned into the walls were from the book of Revelation. In a harmonious comparison, the Stryper silk screen artwork was also from the book of Revelation.

This photo taken in August 2017 shows the miracle Stryper silk screen, which currently hangs over my bed.

The In God we Trust CD box above also carries a special message in red:

Always there for you; keep the fire burnin’; and I believe in you.

View from inside my bedroom looking back toward the hallway. Master bathroom is on the right.

The linen closet is at the metal door past the burned door.

Buddy and Linda’s room is straight across the hallway.

Stryper silk screen was hanging on wall to left of the burned through door.

What is that on the light fixture in the bathroom?

The Stryper silk screen was hanging to the left of the Mastedon poster.

The top would have been about a foot from the ceiling, well within the blackened burn zone.

This shepherd’s fire was all God’s perfect work and precise doing! The Great Spirit in the sky was sending smoke signals! This whole fire scenario was really just now beginning to take an unusual form and had started to become extremely mysterious. This fire event was quickly proving to be something far beyond your ordinary, average, everyday apartment fire! Stay focused now, and fix your eye’s undivided attention on the specific details because this mysterious fire story has a desire to reach out and touch, to sing loudly and be heard, and to be seen and understood for what it truly is!

Whenever I have a serious, difficult question, I call out and ask God for the correct answer. He usually refers me to his answer book: Basic Instructions Before Living Eternally, also known as the B.I.B.L.E. After asking Him about the undamaged Stryper silk screen, He directed and showed me a related scripture verse in the book of Daniel, which perfectly described the undamaged condition of the white angels on the artwork: Daniel 3:27.

On whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed, nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.

Many times, when God answers your questions, there can be several deeper layers to His answer. Other new questions and inspired thoughts can arise from that answer. The following curious enlightenment came to be in my thoughts in 8-22-2014. There are a couple of other interesting questions, which arose from this scripture verse that I had also asked God. First of all, I asked him, Did the angels sing in the fire? And I also asked, Why were they not singed? These two questions seemed to make a connection from the four musical angels on the Stryper silk screen to the four fire vision images on the walls. Just thought that I would share these intriguing thoughts with everyone. (Welcome to my world.)

The word singed is a curious one. The basic meaning or definition, damaged by fire, is unusual but maybe not so much when we associate the word to the angels and the fire. When the word singed is written, it looks like it should be the past tense of sing. But we all know that the past tense of sing is either sang or sung. The Christian rock band Guardian, coincidentally (Ha ha) has an album titled Swing, Swang, Swung. We will look more closely at Guardian later in chapter 10. Follow my brain as it waves hello, and humor me for another moment please. Think deeply about this. The angels sang but were not singed? (Are you now thinking that I am about three s’mores short of a Girl Scout campfire?) When the holy angels around the throne of God sing, does fire come out from them? Let’s consider this detail for a moment and look closer at Isaiah 6:3–4 (GNT).

They were calling out to each other: Holy, holy, holy! The Lord Almighty is holy! His glory fills the world. The sound of their voices made the foundation of the temple shake, and the temple itself became filled with smoke.

Both effects—the temple itself became filled with smoke and the sound of their voices made the foundation of the temple shake—are attributed to the voice of him who cried out. Did the angels sing in my apartment and fill the house with smoke? Did they sing but were not singed? The house was filled with smoke! Sing, sang, sung, but not singed! Think about it! The angels sang, filled the house with fire and smoke, but were not singed!

There are two specific scripture verses, which seem to be main clues and master keys for those four fire vision images. The first verse directly parallels to the three angel images and the cross image. Holy, holy, holy! The Lord Almighty is holy! (Isaiah 6:3).

The second scripture verse takes the Isaiah verse one step further. Revelation 4:8 states, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!

Each word holy seems to represent one single angel image. Originally, there appeared to be three angel images and the cross image that were created in the fire. It’s as if each angel image is actually singing Holy. So we now have the three angel images singing Holy, holy, holy to the cross image with Jesus Christ, who is the king of the angels, the Lord of the hosts (angels). This gives us a bright, new shining illumination for the verse: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory! This meaning rises above all others as the whole apartment seems to be full of His glory!

Revelation 4:8 indicates and points to a tri-time line (transcending all time) for these images. The specific all-inclusive times of the past, the present, and the future times are all referenced here as the Bible declares, Who was and is and is to come! These fire vision images tell of things from the past, the present, and the future! Like God, they transcend time! Like God, these images are three in one through time!

Along with the Stryper silk screen, there was one other curiously moved, carefully placed, undamaged item, which I had found in my bedroom. It was a plastic model of a Blue Angels airplane, which I had assembled from a plastic model airplane kit. I had purchased this model at an airshow called (angel?) wings over Houston, featuring the Navy’s Blue Angels. I had specially customized this plastic Blue Angels plane by painting a cross and several number sevens on it. During the fire, the Blue Angels airplane somehow took flight and had safely landed on the coffee table below the ceiling where it had been hanging out before the fire. It surprised me when I saw it! The plane hadn’t crashed and burned! The plastic body wasn’t melted, and even the brittle plastic landing wheels weren’t broken after the four or five-foot drop. This seemed totally impossible and left me wondering how this had happened.

The NASA moon to earth view wall poster folded over and covered the earth. There is a heart shape on the wall. John 3:16? God so loved the world? To the
