Binki Bumble's First Day Out - D. L. McDavid
One glorious day in a far-off land, we find ourselves witnessing the beautiful beginnings of another day. The sun is rising patiently on the eastern horizon, a stunning burned orange in color. Light beams are shining throughout the morning sky. Streams of clouds streaked the pale blue up above. Below we find a sea of green speckled with small patches of red, orange, lavender, and yellow of the ever-present floral arrays sprinkled about. There is also an occasional large tree on the hillsides. One of which is where we find the Bumbles,
a loving family of bumblebees living at the highest point of the highest hill above the valley.
The Bumble family, consisting of William, Billy,
the father, Beatrice, Bea,
the mother, daughter, Betty, and son, Bobby, Binki,
is a fun-loving brood. ¹Billy is a loving husband who cares deeply for his wife and children. ²Never quick to anger but firm with his discipline. ³Bea is a caring and supportive companion to her husband and a compassionate, comforting mother to her children, devoted to their well-being and development. Betty and Binki are two rambunctious children. They are very active yet ⁴respectful to their parents, always trying to honor and obey them, making Billy and Bea very proud parents.
It was on this day that Betty and Binki learned one of the most valuable lessons of their young lives—the significance of fatherly instruction and motherly advice. ⁵Parental love creates the most sincere source of trustworthy guidance a child can receive.
Beatrice said to the children for the first time, Your father and I have decided to allow you to go out into the neighborhood and play on your own.
Yeah, yaaa, all right. Let’s go, Betty. Let’s go,
Binki shouted with excitement.
No, no, wait, Binki, hold on,
said Betty.
Aaaah, you’re a party pooper, Betty,
said Binki with
disappointment.
Now, Mom, Dad, are you sure we’re ready for this?
asked Betty. There is a lot of temptation and bad people out there. Are you sure we’ll be okay?
"Well, Betty, your
