    Chapter II The Ghost Story

Chapter III The Ghost House On Wickham Ave.

You have got to believe me, you got to. Ever hear that before?

The best way to keep a friend is to tell him the truth, never lie to him, right.

Well there are times you may have to stretch the truth but only for the sake of keeping your friend, right. The truth can be right in front of you and you not accept it. So can a lie, right. Well this is a time the TRUTH becomes a shock, the unspeakable, something you shouldn’t share, or ask yourself if this is real or if my best friend is just stretching the truth.

    I saw a ghost

    Chapter I

You know girls are not bad

What? This was the last statement my brother Wacky said when we left Peggy’s house after spending most of the day (yesterday) playing Monopoly with her and all of her girl friends.

The rain lasted most of Saturday and we were going mad just setting in the house and that was why we went over to Peggy’s house to play Monopoly, in the first place. No carnival yesterday or today. The hard rain changed all of our plans, no going to the carnival or camping out at the outdoor movie theater, the biggest movie of the year and no fireworks. The weatherman said the rain was to last for days.

Now with that going on, what are we going to do? And the big question is, why would Wacky make a statement like girls are not bad, what is that all about, what is he thinking?

I did notice that Wacky was talking to Doris and setting close to her when we were at Peggy’s house. I saw him smiling and laughing as if he was having a good time just being with her. Of course there were no other boys except Davie (Peggy’s brother) in the house with us, so as of now no one knows what we were doing and what went on at Peggy’s. With all the girls in the neighborhood playing Monopoly I am sure the word will get out.

Well it is time for Wacky and me to go down to the basement and clean up the Club House. We have a meeting scheduled this coming Saturday the 11th of July and we have a lot of work to do before the boys show up. This meeting is for voting on a new President. We had spent the last four weeks getting ready for the carnival and it is in town and we can’t go because of the rain. We are getting the Club House cleaned and working on our next big power pack move. We can’t go to the carnival because it is going to rain all day. We didn’t get to go to the outdoor movie or see fireworks last night. No sleeping over in our tree house either. What another bad day to wake up to. There is nothing to do and nowhere to go. It is good that we have a Club House to play in and can have friends over. Wacky called Bucky, Rusty, Cookie, David, Bobby, and Davie, and told them what we were doing and all of them said they were going to come over. It was about an hour later and every one was there. We starting talking about things we needed to do before the next meeting (this Saturday). Everything was going great and no one was arguing about what needed to be cleaned up and we got things ready for the meeting real fast. After we had finished we were just setting around and talking about things boys talk about. The biggest thing that was talked about was when Cookie asking Bobby if he ever seen a Ghost. That started the ball rolling. After Cookie ask Bobby that, the room went silent. No one said a word. Bobby looked over at Cookie and said NO. Then Cookie said, "I have." Then every one was waiting for Bobby to ask, What did it look like. But he didn’t he just sat there and said nothing. That is when Bucky ask Cookie "what color was it?

What do you mean, what color was it; said Cookie.

You know, was it Red, Blue, Green, or what; said Bucky.

We all just set there looking at Cookie and Bucky waiting for an answer from either one of them, but they just stood there with their mouth open. As if they didn’t have an answer. That is when we heard a knock on the Club House door. Everyone and everything came to a complete halt our body frozen in place. Not a word was spoken, not a breath was taken, and not a sound was made. Then there was a second knock on the door and a voice of a girl, which was very weak: "are you boys in there?"

I looked over at Wacky and he look at me. And at the same time we said, who is it? And she said, just one of the girl members of the club.

This is when a look of despair went around the room from boy to boy, eye to eye, and with everyone taking it a deep breath. The sound in the room was dead once again. You could hear our hearts beating and the blood running through our veins in each other’s body. Shock hit us like a ton of bricks.

At this point you got to ask who was it at the door, and what did she mean just one of the girl members of the club. I walked over close to the door and tried to look through the crack between the wall and the door but couldn’t see who it was. So I said, who is it and what do you want?

It is Doris and I was looking for Bucky.

All the air in my lungs left me and a sigh of relief came over me. I was sure it was Peggy and she was looking for me. Man did I feel great. Then out of the back of the room came laughter so loud from Cookie you could hear it for miles. Screaming from the top of his voice the words, Bucky has a girl friend, Bucky has a girl friend and he likes her too. Then he started laughing.

The more he laughed the louder he got. There I stood at the door not knowing if I should open the door or get between Cookie and Bucky because I knew a fight was ready to start. So I opened the door and their stood Doris with all smiles looking straight at Bucky. Bucky looking at Doris he said, What do you want?

Can you go walking in the rain with me, I brought my umbrella so we could stay dry, said Doris.

No, said Bucky. Are you crazy, no one goes walking in the rain, and for what?

I though you would go walking with me like we did at the carnival, said Doris.

Then Bucky said; you need to go back home because we are having a meeting and girls can’t be here.

That is when Doris took off running and never looked back.

Now at this point I knew I had to get between Cookie and Bucky because there was no way Bucky was going to let Cookie say and do what he did in front of the other boys with out a fight. I got there just in time. Bucky started taking off his shirt and popping his knuckles. (He did this all the time to show how mean he was).

Then Cookie said; if you want a fight, I will meet you tomorrow at the ball field at 12:00 noon.

Then Bucky said, I will be there and you better show up.

This is when Cookie left and Bucky stayed at the Club House trying to explain to the boys why Doris came by to go for a walk. I could hear him saying,

Oh she is just a friend. Most of the boys believed him and started asking Bucky if he was going to teach Cookie a lesson for laughing at him.

Bucky said; yes I will teach him not to laugh at anyone ever again. Then he said, you guys may want to see this fight, it will be a good one, I promise.
